Illustrating Sketchup in Photoshop
-
Here is a short tutorial on how I illustrate my models in Photoshop. I dont have a direct render engine for sketchup and was fed up importing my models into Lightwave or MAX so started painting them in photoshop instead. I was mainly inspired by 'bbzwbbzw' he is the true master of painting in this was you can see his work here http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/2d-gallery/45208-vir-inter-astrum.html. Ive had good feedback over at scifimeshes.com
http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/2d-gallery/41907-halo-fleet-profile-sheets.html
and nearly 17,000 views on my sketchup thread so I thought it was about time I posted a tutorial of my own. Its very simple and you will only need a very basic knowledge of Photoshop to follow it. I use a graphics tablet for my models but this tutorial is all done with a trackpad on a laptop so you should all be able to do it no problems. Lat me know what you think and if you use this tutorial with some of your models please feel free to post your results here for me to see.

is there way to make textures for 3d models in Photoshop? I always thought how much better I could make textures if I didn't have to UV map them.

hi Blah11
I don't fully understand your question. Do you want to create tileable textures from photos in photoshop, texturing and painting in photoshop, or uv unwarping the mesh and painting the map in photoshop? the first two are possible but the second one i'm not very experienced with it because photoshop can ask for a lot of memory for this, so i can just help with the first one. the third one it's not possible in sketchup. the best you can do is using projection texturing in sketchup by exporting the front and left views from the mesh in jpg and painting your texture in photoshop so you can aply it to the mesh in sketchup using projection texturing (i use a technic like these in these images http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=19269&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=plastic+surgery , see the 3rd image with original image from the mesh, the photo, and final painted photo to the map).
