Dynamic Components
-
Hello,
Please take a look at the attached jpeg files, look at them in order as it was supposed to be a movie but this forum does not accept .avi files. It was done using Solidworks, Iβm wondering if SketchUp is able to create something like this with a dynamic component where in the model if I rotate one part (as in the pictures) along the bottom axis and another part is connected to the top, it will move with that part without skewing like with nodes in planes.

This should be possible, although the maths is going to be a little tricky, i think.
I'll try and knock up a little demo this evening
edit: sorry, its going to have to wait a little longer. Too much stuff to do.

Seems you will have some slidding rubbing frictions
Seems one piece must place behind? -
Not too worried about friction right now, its a bracket for a solar panel and I just want to be able to move it around that way since it will be tracking the sun. I also need to do some shading studies so it would be great if this could move like that so i do not need to create a new bracket every time.

Here you go. Just to warn you, its pretty rough around the edges. The maths was a little trickier than I had anticipated.
To set the angle: right click->dynamic components->component options.
you should be able to change the geometry within each component fairly easily, as long as you bear in mind where the centres of rotation are for each piece.

Thanks remus, this will be a good starting point for me to make a full dynamic solar panel.
