[Plugin] Simple Loft alpha 0.1b -- UPDATED May-15-09

Very impressive.
Be neat if you could add in something like Joseph Lieblinger's Soap Skin method to flex the triangulated surface.

No possibility to automate the clicks of curves?
the 10 curves are made with the Grow plug by Tig
-
Fantastic plugin.
Thank you very much for your hard work!
-
damn Chris, you are a genius...
can you please tackle the problems of cold nuclear fusion and faster than light travel, after you finish this plugin?
just a question... what if I WANT straight lines connecting faces? You know... for something that doesnt look organic... dunno... like a ship hull or something... maybe you can add, in the final version, option for connecting with splines or lines?

@Chris:
Thanks for another excellent effort in this Loft Tool.
This is to confirm proof of concept in the wild. I remodeled my guitar neck/body heel transition, and it worked very well. -
Hi Chris
Heads up on alpha 0.1b
BugSplat on V6 latest (3 times)
OK on V7 free latest
Using 3 equal arcs.dtr
-
Hmmm... I am getting Bugsplat on anything with loft tool... To be precise I draw arc (12 segments) I draw second arc (12 segments) I press loft select both arcs, hit enter choose 5 grom GUI. press OK ....bugsplat. SU7...will try now on SU6.
-
Interesting...it works no problem on SU6 with 2 or more arcs.
-
If you are refering to my case ....they had only same number of segments but not same curves.
-
Bummer Sepo, your getting splats on any loft in v7?
Could you attach a file with shapes that splat? I'm not sure if this is a script conflict splat or if you guys are using it in ways that never crossed my mind (like with shape bender, I'm amazed at what people make that script do!).
So perhaps attach some example models and I'll take a look. Thanks!
Chris
EDIT: Sorry, in that previous post I was answering dtrarch - I'll edit it to make it more clear.
-
@dtrarch - Lofting 3 equal arcs in SUv6 gives bug splats? But 2 equal arcs do not, correct? Could you post a model that splats?
I'll look into it and I have a pretty good idea where in the code to start looking. I can't think of anything I've done that should splat though. Oh well, I'll try to check it out.

Dear Chris,
I cannot seem to get your plugin to work. The loft icon appears in my toolbar, and seems to work: it changes when selected and allows the selection of the two curves (simple arcs with the same number of segments), but then nothing. I even tried exploding the arcs, but still nothing.
As usual, I put the simple_loft folder and loader in my plugin folder. Is it possible that one of my other plugins is causing a problem? I have tried your plugin on two different computers (home laptop and office desktop), but with the same result. Both have the same plugins. Curious.
Kind regards,
Bob -
This is console . I start loft and have this
--> New Definition Added:
--> 0
--> nilI select arcs,press ok in GUI have this for 1 second
--> New Definition Added:
--> 0
--> niland than bugsplat....now this happens in SU7 even with simple curves.

Dear Chris,
I do apolgise. I had a senior moment, or to be more precise, I failed to read your instructions to the end. Hit ENTER was the missing step. Seems to work just fine now.
Kind regards,
Bob -
Hey Chris,
Been playin' a bit...so far no probs. I'm on SU7 Pro, Vista if that helps.

Chris
I checked V6 with only loft installed.
It is bumping into another script or ?
The same script set is on V7 and loft is OK there.??
BTW the number of arcs 2-whatever still bombed.Dave

Made using simple_loft

Hi Chris,
You and Fredo can have the Nobel Prize, whatever the category.Marvelous in all ways !!!
Google, eat your heart out (again)!
-
Quite bizzare. On Vista comp SU7 works fine but not on XP SU7, However on same XP SU6 it works. I will now try on my XP laptop.
-
Sepo, your issue to me looks very much like an observers problem - specifically a collision with another script that is watching the selection set being added to. I'm sorry for the hassle, but you might need to remove plugins a few at a time until you find the culprit.
@Bob, glad you found the problem. That was going to be my suggesion, but I'm glad you got it working! The bowl looks great. I'm guessing you made it using half circles and then combined them together? Very nice!
@Dave, weird that it is splatting on version 6. You tried it with nothing else installed? Are you on Vista? Is there a chance you have any hidden plugins in the compatibility folders? That has ruined my scripts for more than one person already....grrr. Could you open the Ruby console (Window>Ruby Console) and see if you are getting any notices in there when running the script?
@Jeff, thanks! Glad to hear its working good for someone.
I really don't know whats causing some of these splats. We'll keep trying to troubleshoot it.
Thanks for the feedback,
Chris
