Scale by measurement
-
Im trying to scale something to a specific height and it only works on percentages, is there a way to maybe scal to a specific measurement or is there a plugin to help or maybe a workaround...
thanks in advance...

First of all you'll need to put the stuff you want to scale in a group. You can then enter the group, select the tape measure tool, measure the height you want to change, type the new height and press enter. A little dialogue will pop up, just press 'ok'.
-
- Open the group/component you want to scale
- Use the measurement tool and measure a length which you want to scale to a specific length
- Immediately after measuring, type in the desired length, and SU will prompt you to scale the active group/component
meh, Remus beat me to it. (...and my oredered list doesn't work... ? )

i already changed that but it scaled the rest of it also and the one i wanted changed didnt actually change, it actually changed the parent component....

You can also type in a length when using the regular scale tool.
If you have a box at 1000x1000x1000mm and you grab one of the scale handles to scale it in one direction ly and then type in "2000mm" you'll end up with a box of 1000x2000x1000mm.

Did you open up the group/component? It not enough to select it, you have to open it.

thanks for that never new that was like that...
EDIT1: yes i did open it thankyou..

Yup, when using the Scale tool without the units it scales by proportion but if you also type the units, it will scale to the size you typed in.

Hi folks.
The Tape Measure Tool will scale along all the directions at once and yes, if you dont want to rescale the whole model but only a part of it, it must be used in the context of a group or a component.
However, to rescale only in one direction, the tool to use is either the Move Tool, used with a carefull selection, or the Scale Tool.
When using the Scale Tool, if you use a pure number, the number will be used as a scale factor.
If you follow the number by a unit suffix like mm (for millimeters), for example, the real dimension will be used. Thus, even if you want to use your default unit, you must enter it after a number if you dont want the Scale Tool to consider the inputted number as a scale factor.
And lastly, if you use the Move Tool or the Scale Tool, the object do not need to be in a group or a component.
Just ideas.
