Moonlander,
First I would create a cube using the rectangle tool and then the push pull tool.
Looking at your model you have just created faces that don't match up.When you have a cube with the picture on should be able to trace the outline.
I remember there being loads of posts about this.
Have you tried searching the forum.
I'm working on a quick and dirty tut for you but might be a couple of days (a bit busy at work)

To answer your message about aligning the faces see the images below.
This the faces you created in the original file can you see the gap.
Here is the rectangle I created then used the push pull tool. As you begin to model more you will need to start making sure that faces meet.hope that helps
