[WIP] Discworld - Ankh Morpork - Assassin's Guild
-
Here is quick sketch...not necessery same profile but as there is no reference as good as any.
-
no, I mean there are buildings from different timezones, not just built in different times.. it gets a little confusing to explain lol
take my example. the Dysk when it was built (Wyrd Sisters) was the most advanced theater in AM. but, the Opera House (Masquerade) across the road is older and more advanced... since there's 2 timezones there thanks to the History Monk's repairs... the Dysk is actually from before the Opera House was built....
and thats just that one street in AM.
can't wait till you try modeling Empirical Crescent.....

Usually aprons like on my sketch have returns , but on the first sketch there aren't any.

Good Lord! Time Monks and Bloody Stupid Johnson... ...trying not to think about them.
Yea, there's a reason why I started with something more sane. I figured it'd be better to get into the feel of the city of something more predictable. Bloody Stupid Johnson's creations and the Tower of Magic are things that have to linger in my head before I begin to tackle them. -

I think that AK might be wishing that Blood Stupid Johnson didn't have your way of thinking.
Awesome modelling BTW. You've inspired me to have an attempt at a different building after I've finished my current work.
-
Got any particular building in mind? I could see if I have any references lying around which I could scan in.
I just ordered Discworld Assassins' Guild Yearbook, hopefully there'll be some extra info there.
"AK"?
Just occurred to me that having Bloody Stupid Johnson's creations lingering in my head might not be a healthy thing...

sounds like a new plugin is needed...
You are about to build a BSJ Tessellation - Please step away from the computer....

That would be great, I want to make the Pseudopolis Yard.

Just wanted to say you've created a great model! Modelling Ankh-Morpork architecture from scratch is tricky since everyone's got their own idea of how things look, but with source material that's not a problem. Who was it that was modelling the entire city from the map?

This thread: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13176
I kicked me starting with this model. Got me thinking modelling Discworld would be fun.I originally thought I'd model houses for that model, but I get all too quickly caught up with details. So I expect I'll be running a parallel project with more detailed scenes.
It would be very interesting to see the different interpretations of various things. However, in my case, I've seen so much of the extra art material to the Discworld that my image of it has been affected by that. Which is why I base it on existing illustration of the people that's worked with Terry. For what's not being illustrated before, I'll just make stuff up, but I'd still like to pay attentions to descriptions from the book if there are any.
I really wonder how the big tower will be modelled. Or even the University, seeing how it changes structure.
-
Here, I've made a start on the Pseudopolis Yard. How is it looking in relation to your resorces?
I'm modelling it from a pic of a plaster model that I found on the internet.

According to Paul Kidby:
-
Good resource!
Similar but different. I might have to start again then. -
About time I check in with the current status; considering it's a WIP thread.
Doing some texture tests as well as experimenting with V-Ray setup to pick all the small details.
Next I'll tweak some of the building details before I start applying all the textures. If anyone got some good resources for roof that would fit I'll love to hear. I don't want the copper like thing it has now.
(Should I add this to the original post, to keep it all collected in one place?=
-
Wow Thomas, that is beautiful work. Keep it up.
-
WOW, now that I've seen yours updated, I might finshing off the rest of mine.
Sitting them beside each other, they look like they are meant to be in the same town so I think that's a good thing.Do you have any more resource for the Pseudopolis Yard?
-
Fantastic Thomas..looks very good..

Afraid not.
Though, I'm reading Guards Guards atm taking notes of any visual description of the city. And afterwards I'm reading Men at Arms.
