Materials do not show up
-
I'm having an issue with materials. When I select a material in the Materials window, then click on an object in the scene, the object changes color to something similar to the texture (for example, if I try to use "Brick_Antique" the object just becomes brown, but no bricks are visible). This happens with all materials and in all files.
Thanks in advance! -
I think you are in "shaded" mode.
Go to menu, select [View]-[Face Style]-[Shaded with Textures]. -

go inside your group or component.

I can't be positive (because I've only been using Sketchup for a couple days) but as far as I can tell, the objects are not in groups. Is there anyway I can check?
Even when I create a brand new rectangle (for example), and try to apply a texture, it does not work. -
Can you upload your screen capture?

I found the problem. For some unknown reason, I was working in an extremely huge scale. My model (in real life) would be a couple miles across, but when I measured it, it was millions of miles long! lol
So I scaled the entire layout down, and scaled down again, and again, and I can finally see the textures now (although I will have to do some editing).
Question: does Sketchup work like vector programs? Meaning, can I assume that every element scaled down perfectly and kept its original proportions?A huge thanks to you guys for taking the time to give your input!

As long as you definetly selected everything and scaled using the corner grips it will all stay in proportion.
A little tip for next time: if you click the tape measure tool, measure the length of an edge and then type in how long it is meant to be SU will resize the entire model automatically.

SketchUp ISa vector program so it should definitely behave as such.
Another tip: there are templates in SU -if you are a ne user and installed SU recently, you had to choose a template at the beginning.
Now keep in mind that you can always create your own templates - just modify a new file/model as you wish (this means all style settings, included components like Sang is included in some, even scenes, pre-made layers etc.) AND of course, views in the way how "big" scale you are working. A woodworker would obviously like to start a new model from much "closer" than a landscape architect for instance.
When you have set up everything, you can save your model in File > Save as template and then choose this new template to start SU with every time you use it at Window (Skethup on Mac) > Preferences > Templates.Note that always work in "real scale" (1:1) except in very extremely small/large scales. Materials are (and new materials always should be) also "scaled" to real life.
