Drawing on spheres
-
Hi. I've been using sketchup since I first discovered it a few months ago, recently upgraded to SU7, which I love even more! My one major gripe is that SketchUp does not want to cooperate with me when drawing on the surface of a sphere or dome. I am trying to model planets for exterior sci-fi scenes. (Yes, I AM crazy! ) No, texture wrapping will not be sufficient, since I am intending to render these models with Podium. Looking for any help, especially if there is a ruby script I can DL to do this. I have been through the help files and done a little poking around, but have not yet found what I need. I am generally pretty good at finding workarounds, but I admit this one has me stumped. I mean, yeah, I can draw on the surface of a sphere, etc, but this requires changing orientation on >each and every face< and makes the process take about 20 times longer, which is just not worth it. Any help would be very gratiously received.
Eagerly awaiting reply,

Thanx Jeff. I just DL'ed that and am going to give it a try. Aside from the fact that I am going to have to be patient with this ancient tortoise of a P-3, I have high hopes for this plug-in.

UPDATE
Just got the plug-in installed and started using it. That did the trick! Thank you so much for pointing me to that. Never would have found it on my own!!Nathryc

Hi Nathryc,
I'd not completely discard a spherical UV mapping tool however:
