[Plugin]SketchyPhysics3 alpha.
-
Here it is. The long overdue new version of SP. Its an alpha version because it still has lots of bugs and a few missing features. It has also only been lightly tested. So it may not run on all configurations etc.
Please do not post models made with this version to 3dwarehouse. In part because there is a good chance that the final release won't play a model made with this version.
Install by running the setup below. By default it installs in Sketchup 7 but should work ok with SU6. The final version will likely be SU7 only.
Both SP3 and SP2 are installed. The version can be selected in the Plugins->SketchyPhysics menu.
I am going to talk about the individual features in separate threads but here is a list of the major ones.
-Improved controllers
-New magnet system. (old unoffical magnets no longer work)
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=16308
-Official buoyancy (water) support.
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=16338
-SketchyReplay animation recording and playback.
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=16309
-Gears support for joints.
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=16339
-Support for all joystick buttons and wired XBox 360 style joystick.
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=16340
-Keyboard emulation of joysticks.
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=16340
-Mac support coming soon. Here is a video Daniel did of some of the new features:

Post here any bugs you find.
Chris
Update:
New version here:

I'm going to test it. Waiting was valuable...
New features like copy and reverse are great works
The small video done by Daniel is amazing.
Thanks a lot ChrisMALAISE

I only managed to post the animation and magnets feature threads tonight. The rest died in a browser crash. I will redo them tomorrow.

I've just thought of a great feature that i reckon would be great to include in an update or at least sketchy physics four, having some kind of interactivity with the water plane, like being able to make a paddle steamer, with the paddles actually being able to provide propulsion or propellers being able to provide propulsion. i'm sure that accurately reproducing the propeller effect in sketchyphysics would be hard, but maybe something like starting off making paddles?
oh yeah and another feature that would be great along side that would be sliders to control boyancy or something so you could make a submarine... wouldn't that be great?

Working paddles are probably not possible even in sp4. But I think you could do a sub using buoyancy and magnets.

Great news. Hope you could keep SU6 support with final version.

Hi Chris,
Looks very cool. Thanks! I just installed and wondering how to activate magnets and new features? It's probably right in front of me
Cheers,
Jeff -
Some tests in perspective!

JeffOpen up the UI and select an object and you should see the magnet settings.

Thanks Chris,
I downloaded the SKP file in the magnet thread and played with the settings. Very very cool! You script writers really don't get enough credit for your work. I guess it won't be long before you all band together and write your own Modelling program...eh?
This forum is the best!!!
Jeff -
I created new topics for Gears, Joystick and Buoyancy and updated the feature list with pointers to the new topics.
I still have to do Controllers and a Misc topic. Controllers is going to be a really long one and I probably wont get it done until tomorrow.

You are a hero. And by the way, the video music was EPIC

Brilliant!
I'm excited about the possibilities with the joystick emulation... but are the physics components in this release? I can't find the option. Keep up the good work -
i have come across some interesting bugs and have no idea why they are happening. Using this in sketchup 7, i can't seem to use some of the prebuilt components. when using hinges etc the component does not travel in the same orientation as the hinge slider etc.
Any ideas on where i might be going wrong?

Very nice Chris
I really like the new features
I made a slider controled truster out of 2 boxes held together with ball joints
and a slider controled magnet

Post a model that shows the problem and I'll take a look.

I have found a bug: In this model, the thing is supposed to "explode" like a bomb. It works in sketchyphysics 2, but in the SP3 Alpha, not only does it fail to detonate, but a blank control bar appears. If you touch the control bar, you get an error message.
Link to model: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=920ecad0ac545b53266076a1a3bfa166Also, could you give us instructions on how to use the rubyscript duplicate objects?

As I said in the Magnets thread, the Sp2 style magnets dont work in this version. The dup option is broken at the moment.

It does not use magnets. It uses spazzed out hinges.

Sometimes, if you don't fill in the inspector values exactly right, an error message will pop up every time you try to access the joint in question. This effect can occur both before, during, and after a simulation.
