I'm modeling a bench. Using the BezierCurve Ruby, I've made some curves, connected with straight lines, to outline the end. Now I want to pull the outline into a block to make the actual end. However, there's no surface to grab hold of to pull.

I've zoomed in as best I can and the joints between line segments all seem to meet (after a point, the zoom goes through the lines & I can't look any closer).

I checked for flatness by filling it in with triangles, which each made a plane surface, then erasing the divisions between them. The plane surface held, meaning the curves are flat and everything is planar.

What else can I do to force a plane surface? Anything short of outlining each curve point by point?

      Thanks,

      Jim

Could be a hidden line across your face. SU will then refuse to push/pull that face since it's really two faces. (or more)

You can use the plugin Join Push/Pull to push/pull multiple faces.

          Hi Jim,

That profile is a group. Double click on it to edit the find two neighbouring endpoints which if you connect with a line, the flat side will heal.

Still inside the group, you can P/P it without any problem.

Gaieus, I had to zoom way in to connect the points as my line would snap to some reference point. Is there a way to only snap to the end point?

I had to zoom in,too (well, it's a bit poly heavy as it's made of beziers). Unfortunately there's no way you can get rid of certain inferences although sometimes it would be very handy.

Not sure if this is what you want, but a trick I picked up (from here ?) is to draw a rectangle around the shape then delete the unwanted bits - you'll have top ungroup your lines first

I checked about 6 times and could not find a gap. Finally I tried looking for endpoints with the Line tool. Still didn't find a gap, but when I reconnected any two segments of the outline it filled in.

Damn, it's always the simple stuff.

                  Thanks, Gai!

It's because I can only find the simple solutions. πŸ˜‰
