Rendering help with V-Ray or Podium
-
Are there any V-ray or Podium users out there who could test some RpTreeMaker components to see if they render properly?
I have posted some samples to the RpTreeMaker thread if you want to help out.

Hi Al,
The test file you posted in the other thread makes my Sketchup 7 behave strangely.
Somehow, when opening it, I can't change the field of view anymore by entering a value in the VCB. -

Somehow, when opening it, I can't change the field of view anymore by entering a value in the VCB.There are two .skp files over there. The one with only one tree changes the fov properly - but it is hard to tell, because there is only one face-me component in it, which doesn't change - but the shadow does, and if you add a face on the ground, then you can see changes.
The one with three trees is in a Parallel Projection rather than Perspective - so FOV is not available.

Al, I tried both files and they render no problem. Found that clipmap is not really necessery for Podium but I can see need for Vray. Both files (including parallel projection) render no problem and quality of shadow does not make any difference for Podium.

My mistake, I turned of parallel projection and all is fine.
Both files render well.
Colours of the trees are odd though.
That is why I asked you earlier on to have the option to produce 3D trees rather than billboards, so we can alter the textures of bark and leaves ourselves.I love the plugin you made, but I can't use it currently in my renders as there is not a lot of control on the textures. Having 3D trees with seperate textures would allow that...

You can change the colours of the bark and leaves before you create the tree. They are alpha-png images stored in the application. You can load them, change them, and save them with a new name (or save other images) and make the trees with the new images.
You can also change the brightness of the trees with the Brightness tab before you save the image.
You can also, vary the illumination of the tree by rotating the HDRi sky which illuminates it on the Advanced tab.
All that said, we do intend to produce a 3D version. But we haven't gotten around to it yet.
