Broken ass!

As the heading states, has anyone here ever bust their butt? by that I mean the Coccyx.
I was diagnosed with a fractured Coccyx yesterday after a playing in the snow with my boys.
They say boys will be boys, anyway we were sleding down a pretty steep hill at the inlaws home in New England (Cape Cod, Mass)and decided that speed would work even better so we decided to use the sprinkler on one section in order to make an ice course which would achieve even greater speeds.
The result was a friggin amazingly fast ride that the kids had a blast on, but it lacked something (enter 9 year old kid with a brainstorm) It needs a ramp!
So after painstakingly building one, wetting as we build to create an Ice ramp and waiting a few hours for the ice to harden we were ready to test it out.
My kid went first, being a lightwieght he got some great hieght and distance, beating his older and heavier brother by 3 feet in distance. Then it was my turn and I knew that I would need to generate more speed in order to get the distance needed to win (winning is everything). Now the important thing to note is we were using 'saucers' (large plastic moulded circular shapes)I did indeed get the win for the greatest height acheived, but missed the distance one as I kinda veered off course and landed on some real hard Ice (from the day befores Ice slope) and bust my ass. my kid recalls hearing a loud 'crack' as I hit the ice.
Anyway I decided after a few hours of agony to visit a doctor who was able to determine a fracture in my Coccyx using xray and hence no need for any latex and lube (thank god for that)
I now am a proud owner of a donut, a contraption for sitting in/on, LOL, what fun!And I'd probably do it all again.
These are the moments in life we will always remember, the pain will go away but the fond memories will last a long time.

Just watched a repeat of an old episode of The Simpsons where Bart did it.

It cracks my ass up! -
Ouch. Well it sounds like you had great fun.
Just don't let your kids call you a pain in the ass. -
Hi Solo,
I'm wincing in sympathy..so sorry this has happened at this time of year, but there's never a good time to crack the Coxyx.
Yes, I have done the same thing before. I received a knee to the butt in 1984 whilst playing rugby and that did a great job of cracking and splintering the bone.
Good news is that it will heal with help from that lovely donut support, just be prepared for all sorts of whoopee cushion jokes and pranks like someone pulling it from under you as you go to sit down. Hilarious and painful!
Still to this day, my Coxyx will ache in a dull pain fashion if I sit too long on a plane seat for example. I also recall taking a while to turn over in bed, get up in the morning or get up from a sofa...I'm sure you're discovering that too.Hang in there and take it easy. Hope you get some relief over the Holidays.
Nigel
p.s. Thanks for all your postings and shares in 2008. Illuminating and inspiring.

Ouch! An unfortunate injury for someone who sits in front of a keyboard and monitor for a living. You have my sympathy, sir.
Put lots of holiday "spirits" into that eggnog to numb the pain...

My wife has cracked her Tailbone a few years ago. Very painful. . . and day before yesterday she slid on the ice and landed on her right butt Cheek. She's in a lot of pain now. She's a legal secratary and she's on her tushie all day so needless to say. . .she feels your pain. Get one of those donut pillows.
Happy Christmas anyway.

Kids and ramps... I did the same thing when our ramp broke just as I was starting to "Evel Knievel" my bicycle and landed hard on dry, hard dirt. I remember trying to explain to my brothers "I think this is serious" as they were laughing their asses off.
"I feel your pain."

The last time I tried anything like that I got a broken finger in my right hand that still does not bend as well as the others... I wish you a quick recovery Solo, and a happy Christmas to everyone.

Hi Pete
believe me, I can´t feel your pain but I´m sympathetic to your plight... But, you got away with something which could have been much much worse. The coccyx cannot be reset or fixed, in fact, I know of a woman who had to deliver a very big baby, which when coming out from the birth canal broke her coccyx. As a result 20-something years later her tail bone still faces sideways! You´re indeed lucky your´s is not sticking out, like Man´s lost or wagging tailCheers,

Ouch Pete. I almost did that over 20 years ago. That involved bike shoes and an asphalt driveway. Went almost horizontal down on my tail bone and it hurt so much I just lay there staring at the sky. Nothing broke I don't think.

Pete...your in my neck of the woods...the Cape is only a few hours ride north from me! Sorry to hear about your ass ( boy, you don't get to say that very much) that is a bad injury for someone who sits down for a living to get....you might want to move your PC temporarily to a standing configuration!

A brilliant tale (or should I say tail?) I too have broken my coccyx, but in a slightly more embarrassing accident involving a bike saddle and a lamp post.

Hard luck Pete, hope you mend soon. I'm attaching a pic of you, me and Andrew in Mountain View. It might cheer you up a bit

Pete,
Hope you mend soon. I'm surprised more people don't break their asses since they're already cracked. -
OMG that was too funny... the story and the responses.
but - I hope you heal quickly, Pete! I'm laughing w/ you, not at you...it is only by the grace of God I have not done the very same thing as you...
btw - my kids went down the hill w/out me last year and their sled was like some sort of tree-seeking missile and slammed them into it... luckily they were not killed... just bumps on the heads from tree branches...
they were done w/ sledding for th season after that.
now they're begging to go again. -
Pete, I have not seen any posts from you in a while. I hope that you are just resting and visiting family for the holidays. I sure would hate for you to be seriously hurt.
