hello, I have version 6.5 Vue infinite, and when I open a file. SKP what I see in this program with all parts incomplete, may be a memory problem, or configuration that is the way it displays the files in SKP The Vue?

ur lucky, when I import .skp files nothing happens.

In vain you so... Already wrote that Vue does not understand the skp components, which should be explode up or transformed into groups, therefore use 3ds...

                Guys,

Vue 7 imports SU 6 .skp's without problems, not sure when the patch will come for SU 7 .skp's however.
I still maintain that .3ds export from SU is more consistant than .obj for y'all who do not have Vue 7 yet, and there is no reason to explode components or groups.

I too import in Vue through 3ds - flood fills without distortions, groups are saved, all is very convenient, only the file size turns out very big (8 million polygons for example...) Though the SU lowpoly modeler and in it the scene turns fast. Help please, Solo, in what a problem and how to reduce polygons number?

I really do not have the technical words and elequence to explain this very well, but let me try....

Firstly Vue does not recognise SU's group and component structure the way SU does, so if you have 10 instances of the same component in SU, SU really only needs to remember one and duplicate it 10 times. This way it keeps the file size pretty low, now if you were to explode all 10 instances your file size will increase 10 times, well that's what happens to your model when you export and import into Vue, regardless if it's 10 times one component, Vue sees it as 10 seperate objects.

Have you ever imported a .3ds model which was pretty small in file size, say 300kb, but once imported into SU and saved it's now 4MB or so?
Well that's because SU and .3ds, .obj, etc reads geometry differently, SU works with rectangular faces and when exported into another format those rectangles get triangulated, thus pretty much doubling in size, or amount of faces which equals greater number of polygons. But this does not work the other way when importing triangulated faces, as far as I have noticed they actually subdivide to smaller rectangles in order to create a new SU mesh which in return creates more faces/polygons.

If anyone with more technical knowlegde wants to jump in and give more clarity please feel free.

As for a solution, I do not have one, but then again most other apps handle higher polygons normally and thus this really should not be an issue, but it is as I too have exported a large model into Max and Vue that struggled due to the explosion of polygons.
I also believe SU's rectangular method may be the main reason SU has a high polygon handicap.

I hope this helps some understand, unfortunately it's not a solution.

Thanks big for the detailed answer, Solo, I will try to bypass this problem somehow. Though all the same does not converge, put pictures:

Vue simple polygons splits up not for two, and on many triangles, them in 40 it turns out times more (see arrows)....
