OK, so I tried iRender, liked it but found that it chokes on larger files. downloaded trial of Vray and thought I could just re-render my model in Vray (previously set up in iRender). not so 😞 all I got was a black square, and I'm not Malevich! please help!

Not sure why an irender model should work in vray. Theyre completely separate packages, kind of akin to trying to open an .skp in word.

Anyway, you'll need to remove all the materials on your model and replace them with vray ones. Lots more info: http://asgvis.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=90&

Hi cherepax what size was the model, and were you using IRender Lite or IRender nXt.
You can use the batch rendering in IRender nXt which is for larger models and quicker rendering.

I have not tried Vray yet, but if you are having problems there is a clear button in IRender for individual material settings, so you can revert back to the original sketchup materials.
There is also a ruby from TIG that can change all or selected to say default material, or to what you need.

There is also a thread started by jackson on a new ruby by Matt666 that helps with materials in Vray - its definitely worth a read.

Sounds like a lighting issue more than a material issue. Try rendering without physical camera in vray and see if that helps.
