The attachment on the first post of this thread still works...

Much to my surprise, SketchUp 7 DOES NOT FIX THIS. This patch is still useful with SketchUp 7.

Thanks inio - your patch works great with version 7!

Hi, all -
After some discussion, and me having tested on PC and Mac, our suggestion on Mac is going to be what happens on the PC by default, and that is to turn off hw acceleration (Preferences->OpenGL). With both fast feedback and hw acceleration on PC, things are pretty ugly as well. We've been in contact with Apple on this issue (after the original driver in Leopard causing a hang). If you look at http://developer.apple.com/graphicsimaging/opengl/capabilities/ this card only supports OpenGL 1.2, which is a concern if this a machine you're trying to make your living on. I'd like to thank inio for an INCREDIBLE job of filing a fix for this, but right now I can't convince enough people that this needs immediate fixing. Sorry, and thanks for the comments.

Thanks for the fix Inio! This makes using SketchUp WAY less frustrating now. Is it recommended to leave hardware acceleration and fast feedback on with this patch and the Intel GMA X3100 integrated card?

I wasn't aware that this bug even affected the X3100.
As for leaving those things on - that's up to you. The Google position appears to be to turn them both off, but if it's usable I don't see why you couldn't leave them on.

I'm using Mac Book with 2.4 Intel processor and 2 GB of RAM.
I just switch from using SWEET HOME 3D to GOOGLE SKETCHUP 7 FREE, and had the same problem of SU7 runs slow on MAC.I think everybody has tried INIO's solution and its working well.
i tried to download the thawup installer, but it is said i am not authorized to do so.
Could you inform me, hot to get the patch?thanks INIO

Hi Thedyt and welcome,
If you are logged in to the forums, you should be able to download it (it's a zip file). Please, advise if you cannot (or send a PM) and I'll email it to you but first of all we should make sure you can use the forum properly and there is no problem with you logging in.

Since this seems to be a recurring problem, I've put up a mirror on my own webspace and added a link below the download box.

ThawUp worked for my MacBook with OS 10.5.6 and SketchUp 7.0.8656. Thanks Inio

SketchUp Pro 7 still crashing,
I am on a MacBook Pro, 2GHz, latest sketchup, OS 10.5.6
tried the ThawUp and still crashing.
I can create a crash by going into layers and hit add layer....
sometimes just SU crashes, some times the spinning beach ball of death..
any thoughts or insights.
next stop the Genius Bar.... -

Hi Inio,
I'm a pretty new user to Sketchup 7 using a MacBook running Leopard 10.5.6 & ur fix did the business for me as I was pretty close to giving up using SU7.... Thank you so much for keeping me sane!

Hi there,
Ater installing the patch provided, my sketchup 6 or 7 are still slow when dealing with models containing just a few a few extra layers and objects. I have not seen this happen in windows environment, even on Dell non-proffesional laptops like inspiuron 1525, that seem to use the same graphix card that my macbook does.
My computer info:
White Macbook 2.4GHz Intel (dual core, the latest model before aluminun macbook was lauched, bought on september 2008)
160GB HDD (55GB free)
4G RAM
Mac Os 10.5.6
Intel Graphics card GMA X3100I have tried to use either Skecthup Pro 6 or 7 (I have both), but it seems not to work.
am I condemned to spend more than 2000 bucks on a Macbook Pro or imac? Xan someone please help? I am an architect and have switched to macintosh recently. I got used to it very easily, but the bad performance for autocad 3d and sketchup have brought me many problems with my work.Any help will be muchly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

This patch only improves the performance of certain interactive operations, like box-selecting. If these operations are not dramatically slow (making SketchUp hang or freeze for half a second or more) while others (like orbiting) are fast, this patch won't help you.

Hello all,
I am about to buy a month old imac 24 2.8, but I am concerned with this slowness. I had the opportunity to try the pc, and install SKP (version 6) on it to feel how it went. It was all ok, apart from a certain slowness in orbiting. Well it wasn't really slow... the orbit movement wasn't exactly fluid, it came in steps, not in a unique animation.I don't know what version of Leopard was on that machine (i forgot to ask, but I assume it is the latest), and I am wondering if this package will solve my problems or not.
Thank you for any answer on this!
