If your feeling very keen you could also make sure any textures you imported are saved as small as you can get them, if you save as a .jpg in an image editor there is usually a quality slider so you an get the file size down.

The other thing that comes to mind is the effect mentioned in this thread: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12618

Check out adamb's post and then the test by chris for more info.

As said before, purge the model. (Ensure that there isn't any hidden geometry that doesn't need to be tehre.) Then if the size is still large, go through your materials and ensure your textures are stored in a compressed format. I prefer PNG formats as they don't loose any quality, but JPEG can work as well. Anything that isn't PNG or JPEG you should resave in another format.

Which render engine are you using?

It happens when you're created a Vray linked material from an SU material and then later you deleted the original SU material so Vray can't link it to it anymore. The solution is simply to have a look at Vray's material list and delete any that are linked to deleted SU materials.

                  Hope this helps,

Just to add one more tip for anyone stumbling across this later on...I've occasionally had a weird issue where even purge won't take care of a massive file size. It's been awhile but I think it tends to occur when you sometimes when you delete big chunks of a model as I recall.

Anyway, the end-all be-all purge is to turn on all your layers, copy everything and paste into a fresh drawing. This has helped me a couple times in the past.
