We are scheduled to leave for this out-of-town charrette so i'm practicing the modeling on my boss' laptop. Same file on my desktop no issues, on my boss's i'm trouble trying to select various objects, be they faces or components or groups. I can't select them or paint them. I can window around them. It tends to select the components behind the one i really want. But it will the component i desire when there are no others behind it. Any thoughts. Where does the problem lie: graphics card or maybe some obscure setting for the mouse?? many thanks,
      christopher

It sounds like an opengl issue.

First thing to do is go window-> preferences->opengl->correct reverse picking bug

If that doesnt work youll want to go window-> preferences->opengl and then play around turning 'fast feedback' and 'hardware acceleration' on and off. Once youve done that tell us which combinations work and which dont and we should be able to pin pint the issue a bit more.

thanks remus, getting warmer. The only one that "works" is when hardware acceleration is off. The others seem to help none. Boy is it slow without hardware acceleration.

Im guessing the problem is that the laptop doesnt have a graphics card. This means no opengl support and being stuck with hardware acceleration off. Not really a lot you can do about it unless you want to buy a new laptop.
