There are NO dates for SU 7.

So in my opinion which to the Google clan is worth squat, if higher poly support is not offered and offered soon, SU will be relegated to 3D toy most other modeling app users believe it to already be.
Hear, hear. I'd even be quite prepared to pay more for an SU Pro that isn't brought to its knees by "large" files that are easily opened, navigated etc in other apps. I am quite confident, though - why wouldn't Google want SU to become a better app?
That said, if 7 does not offer hp support, well ... Then I'd be left with two choices: either continue to primarely use a growingly redundant app, or learn -the horror!- a much more complicated one (and I've been looking into several possibilities already). I'm sure I won't be the only one.
I'm also sure Google is quite aware of this. They know that if they don't raise the bar, they'll estrange a part of their user base. Hence, if 7 isn't a leap forward, we know that Google has other interests on its mind than ours.

Wow, Looks like I may have to resort to a different 3D Modeling program if theres no major upgrade like that for Sketchup 7. I'm hoping they could fix it to where High Poly count support would be added - and that more new stuff can be added..

Encouraging fact: Someone is filling a complete book on SU 7 already (= the next 'SU for dummies').
Must be something cool in there that a book can be written about it? -

Yeah? Why's that? 'Mein Kampf' was written in 1924. Poland was invaded in 1939. Errrr ... weird comparison, but you get the point. (Should I add I'm hardly an Adolf fanboy? )
I look forward to reading the book, though. Thoroughly enjoyed the first one (as I did Bonnie Roskes' SU books - check 'em out!).
-
Let's see who's first the Book or Google LOL
-
The book has already been postponed many times. So I'm sure it is waiting for Google.
-
I'm also waiting for Google Sketchup 7..

really, did Hitler write one before that?
(sorry, being extremely silly this morning... and now for something completely different...)by the way: we could start a poll on who is optimistic enough to expect SU7 this year.
-
could i place my 'no' vote now?
-
Having said that, didnt google say it was going to be roughly a 2 year product cycle? so that would mean December/January...

And the revelations was written hundreds of years ago but doomsday is still being postponed...

I'm working on it. My high tech mountain hideout is bustling with activity.
But back to the topic at hand. December or January sounds pretty good to me - but ... I wouldn't be surprised if it's later. As long as it's a good release, with some major improvements, I'm happy. Don't care if it comes in January or July.

Then I guess Bible 3 is soon due to be released as well...

I guess the development team has a couple of features in their pockets and the release depends on which they include and how quickly can all possible bugs be sorted out.
-
I wholeheartedly agree with the other Belgomite.
-
Better late and good, than a sloppy wrap.
As Stinkie said, it doesn't need to be filled to the top with lots of new features.
I think most of us are concerned that Google will make Sketchup a bit more 'solid' in the first place, in a way the software will run more smoothly on complexer models.
Now is the moment to make Sketchup future proof for a lot of years to come. The hardware has gone through a significant development cycle last years (multicore, 64 bit, etc..). Catching up software wise is the biggest challenge.
This does not only apply to Sketchup, it is a given for all software development, but even more important in the 3D segment as 3D software directly benefits from this hardware boost (if coded accordingly).
Since Sketchup is no longer a 'standalone app', considering all the 3td party software (render engines, plugins, etc..) that is been developed for the SU 'platform', Google now has the responsability to maintain this platform as good as it can and provide a solid base for further growth.

Hear here! (choose the spelling of your choice, i couldnt work it out.)
-
I can wait if indeed it will be a really good product that will live up to the anticipation.
Of course We waited 20 years for the new Star Wars Prequels and look how well that turned out.
