How-to make complex car design?
-
Little remark : some objets at 3Dwarehouse can be objects simplified in Google Sketchup, so can't be to consider built in Google Sketchup

Hi XamalA,
That person must have used groups/components which is the ideal way of separating geometry in a model. You can read further about them here:
http://download.sketchup.com/sketchuphelp/gsu6_win/Content/G-Entities/Ent-Group.htm
and here:

I'm sorry, I can't attach the file because it's more than 9mb.

Well,if 9+Mb,it cannot really be a very economical model. What's more, it then seems to be using only groups, not components, which is a kind of sign of a simple "import" from another application rather than a native SU model. If one is (already) a master of SU at this level, would definitely use components to keepfile size down for instance.
Can you at least post the URL of it in the WareHouse?
-
you should look at the models that are in the Gallery section. some people have threads saying how you can make a cool car design steps by step
-
I understand that your problem is you can not make cars in great detail because they become too complicated to be handled?
For my part, in first hand, I made the car in one piece, then I cut into pieces logical; hood bumper...., and I reworked as individual components. once reattached they are more detailed and less greedy for calculating machine. And it's more easy to make tunning too....I also discovered that with the PORSCHE 911 Gt too, it's a very good example....
-
I don't find url of the file of 9 Megs about the 911?
-
you can find directly the 991 gt, in the bank of sample composant.

That would depend if it's using allot of textures.
-
Oh well, yes, textures too. Richard has made some beautiful car models with low poly but detailed textures.
Although car models (if not images used) are fairly good with simple colours as well.

At 9MB it's very unlikely to have started life as a SU model. The warehouse is full of cars converted from Max or Lightwave (mostly) that have been imported into SU then modified.
