Are you ready for SketchUp 7 news?

[quote="mpowell1234567890"]Where can I find these scripts?
Those are not scripts, they are modeling softwares.
As much as it pains me to say it, google them.....
Silo is probably the best deal for a subdivision modeler out there.
Modo has much more capabilities, but is also much more expensive.
If you are on a Mac, Cheetah3D is worth every penny, too, IMO

Chuck and all,
I understand the frustrations voiced, and the concerns of there being better softwares out there and the possibility that youre/we are not working with the latest/greatest. I read the previous thread with the survey about user desired SU improvements, and fully need some of the higher priority user requests, like dualcore compatibility.
I have been finding the level of detailing I am putting into my models leaves me considering why I need to import into another program to document and detail. In the last 2 years I feel I have been implementing alot of new software, though they haven't been used as prevelantly as SU has been. It stresses me to go through another software implementation to get work out.
One of my architectural software vendors is very user orientated, and the userbase is diverse and vocal. The vender tried hard to accommodate many of the users wishes. However I feel that there was a bulletproof version (3 versions back) that they messed up by making the upgrade oneway and they havent been able to fully fix the new releases. The result:? a software that has great potential, that has lost several key functions, added some interesting new ones, but by trying to be everything to everyone, pretty much became a real PITA to me. In short, my point is I think software vendors are too eager to release new versions to get the upgrade dollars, and dont exercise enough diligence working out the bugs. They expect us to tell them what to fix and cause us lost production and time messing with their errors.
I too am anxious to see version 7: for as I mentioned, the modeling capabilities for architecture are impressive, and I have found effective techniques to implement SU into CAD...what I feel though is the implementation to CAD is a waste of time, since the model already holds the ingredients to display a viable set of plans; there just are limitations in SU getting it to documents or printing.
Layout is nice, and works very good for quick presentations without a lot of detail or importance. When my SU requirements get too specific Layout doesn't cut it. It gets too tempermental.Having said all that I am willing to work with vs6, because it works good, and hope version 7 will enhance to output capacity. I don't want Google to release a half-baked version. I would like documentation to be as simple as modeling in SU, and the SU model to stay in its' native environment till CDs are ready.
Just my .02 cents. -
Cool, I'm anxtous to see Sketchup 7 too. "April 2nd, 2013" 5 years is a long wait though.. My guess is that the longer the wait - the more new stuff will be added to Sketchup 7 "5 years worth of new stuff"

my wishlist
-viewports
-real feel for animation
-hide views for different scenes
-more materials such as glass
-add bump and texture to material so it is ready for photorender
-flexible for old plugins specially vray
-mirror command
-2d plan view sketchy feel
-2d elevation not 1 point perspective
-section showing materials
-recover command
-no more bugsplat pls...
-more styles such as color pencil rendering
-psd exporter
-export to jpeg pixel options
ahm here are my wishlist for skp7 -
hi deathcloud,
if I understood your whishes correctly there are some, that can be done already in SketchUp6
-
you can mirror geometry simply by using the scale tool and scaling it to -1 (that results a mirror operation)
-
to achieve true 2D elevations you have to switch your camera mode to Camera > Parallel projection. and then use the standart views. if your elevation is not in a right angle to the standart views, right click on one of the faces you want to look on from a right angle and choose "Align view"
-
for sections to show materials you can use TIG's SectionCutFace script. right click on the section plane and choose "add section cut face". this will create faces where your geometry is cut. needs post processing sometimes. but is a very useful tool!
I definitely agree with you about improvements for animation. there have been nice ideas here in the forum. lets hope Google read these
and to be able to define the aspect ratio of image exports (like it is done with the skindigo plugin) is something they are bound to add. -

Are there any more new news about Sketchup 7?
-
nope. We could start making up some news. That might be even more fun than actual news

ChrisI am sure SU7 will have a Chuck Norris button.
-
...that round house kicks your model in to something presentable

I've heard that someone high up in Google does not like the name SketchUP and has decided that the product be renamed to GiddyUP, In a not so subtle reference to his love of horses.
One of the new features will be called Nibble, This feature will progressively Eat away at your model until eventually there is nothing left. The process can be controlled and the amount of nibble and the rate of nibble and when to stop the nibble are user controlled.
-
Sounds very useful! How will this integrate with the StyleBuilder?

See, I heared it was Sex-up an there was a nipple feature.

On the bright side it will probably have a render animation direct to You tube so that You tube can also be spammed with crappy models like 3DW currently is.
-
lol. Aren't we a cynical bunch. Seriously, though, I'm willing to bet 7'll support high poly models. That, and obj. import. Why? Cause those two things alone will turn SU into a cash cow.
-
It will be entirely re-vamped for the Vista operating system. Everytime you try to do something, a window will pop up asking "are you sure you want to do that?" Answering yes will only produce more windows until finally you the message "SketchUp cannot perform that operation as you do not have authorization. Please contact your network administrator."
-
Theyll also launch about 12 free versions to accomplish a variety of tasks, from modelling interiors, modelling exteriors, landscaping, massing etc. Everything you could ever want in 12 easy to use packages. Oh and they got rid of inference, to many people complained it was really annoying.
-
Stinkie, I'll bet your octo-core monster that high poly support, 64 bit and multi core will NOT be included.
-
Seriously? Dang - why would they not include high poly support?
from my cold, dead hands, Stoppel

Maybe because no one @ Boulder office really is doing hard code on the SU core itself?
At least there is not the slightest indication that they do.
Someone might just have lost the key to get in there .(just joking around)

I do not know whats in version 7, I am not on the beta team , and if i was i would not be able to say as they have a well defined non disclosure.
I just have a hunch, call me quasimodo.
