Multiple texture slots per SU material
-
Hi all,
My wish is simple:
The ability to have multiple texture slots per material.
Preferably with a checkbox to choose which texture is the 'active' one in the viewport.Advantages: One could setup multiple textures with their own uv-mappings. Great for fast swapping between material proposals of a project towards clients. Currently, one need to re-texture and re-position if one wants to switch back to a different texture.
Another hugh advantage is that the multiple texture slots can be used by people who use PR render engines.
Those slots could hold bump maps, displacement maps, roughness maps, dirt maps etc....regards,

that is a great idea, kwistenbiebel. that would come in very handy, especially for architects!
and all the different material-variations are shown as one icon in the material editor
to acess all the different materials, you click the icon to expand them.

Excellent mockup!
Very Sketchup like and easy to use.
Once that 'material variation' icon is clicked, you can choose the texture you want to be active, or create a new one.G, get busy !

great. and the active one is shown as top layer of the icon, while you can get a glimpse of inactive ones on the layers below.
am I right in the believe that ruby does not allow changing native SketchUp windows, like the material window? so this thread is in the right place as a wish... (Google, do you listen?)

Itd probably be a bit ambitious to suggest being able to blend a few of the materials together...a la changing the opacity of a layer in photoshop. It would let you get some very complicated materials very easily, and have a lot of control over them within SU, rather than having to mess about in ps and reimport etc.
-
Indeed, that would make a nice second step.
I would be happy to see just simple multiple slots by Google at first. -
remus, great idea!
when you click one of these multiple-material icons, all the different material thumbnails are listed. you can activate a check mark to either show or hide a material. in addition to that, as you suggested, you define how heavily a material influences the composit (if you have three materials and all are at 100%, every one contributes 33,3% to the final material)
(sorry, can't help doing these little images. but it helps me to imagine things; and hopefully to transport the idea )

He he ....great!

stop peeking on my HDD !
as you cannot change the SU material window I was playing with a separate window.
also added some openGL viewport to use that shaders that are in your gfx card that are sleeping in SU.

That certainly sounds intersting tavi, what are the chances it'll turn in to a full blown plugin? shall i start anticipating exciting new things? or should i suck it up now and keep dreaming for SU 7
-
oh, TBD, that sounds very interesting! I think anticipation is already rising...
do you have already some results to tell/show us? that would be awesome
