How to Model this (turned leg)
-
Hi,
I am new to SketchUp and learning on my own. I think the best way to learn a software is to use it than reading about it,so took my old wood working plan book and thought I will model the one that I see first in the book, well what I see in the book is the image that i posted but I really don't have any clue about how to model that. Can some one give me an idea of how to proceed with it?
Thanks in advance.
Srinivas.

Gonna have to read a little (:~p) about the "follow me" tool...then think: 'profile' and 'circle'.
-
There are various ways of doing it, here are some quick basic steps:
- Import the image into SketchUP.
- Trace out on the image, using pencil and arc tools, half profile of that thing you want to model, so that you get a surface.
- Draw a circle and rotate it so that its plane is perpendicular to the profile surface.
- Line up the centre of the circle and axis of the profile.
- Select the circle, take the follow me tool and click on the profile surface.

Hi folks.
See this SU file for ideas, especially in retracing the profile. The rest is as the others have done it.

It's a bit late to chime in (especially after all these gents' exquisite help) but Dave R has made an excellent tutorial on his blog on exactly this same issue.
