      without using a ruby script, how do you mirror a selection

        I can answer this!

        With the scale tool.

        Select your stuff you want to mirror. Activate the Scale tool. Grab the middle button on either side of the selection that relates to the axis you want to mirror. Start pulling the object inside out (through itself). Release the mouse button, and type "-1" (no quotes). You're done - a perfect mirrored copy. 😄

          or: select your objects, right click, in the context menu: mirror > blue, red green axis.

            A minor correction to eeva's response; it context click: Flip Along > blue, red green axis.

              Making a symmetric object?

              You can take one half of the model you are creating and make a component of it. Make a copy and scale it to -1 in the correct direction, and as you edit the first half of the model, the other half will follow suit.
