i have no problem arranging my toolbars, but i do have a problem with them not staying put.
the first time i boot up my pc at work, and open sketchup, it says that it has to terminate, and i can't open sketchup until i restart the computer.
when it has finally rebooted, and i can open sketchup i have to re-arrange my toolbars again.

it's starting to become a bit of a pain (he says after 2 months)

      any suggestions?

pav, sounds like you have more serious problems to sort out than getting toolbars the way you want them (and have them stay that way). I don't envy you as troubleshooting can be a long an tedious task.

im also having this problem, will it be possible to create a ruby like the sutool but instead of showing just text it can show toolbars like the one made by Jim Foltz?

It is possible to put the same buttons in a WebDialog as are in a Toolbar. Maybe that is the solution.

Of course, WebDialogs are not dock-able, and would larger margins (take up more space) than a Toolbar.

          Hi

What I tried, and it seems to have helped, is go into the registry editor and delete everything that contains "ToolBars-User"

What this does is reset all the toolbar locations, and (at least for me) allowed me to position them easier.

If you try this, you'll want to close SketchUp first.

Note I am not recommending this, but it helped in my case. Running Windows XP Pro SP3.

Thanks! That seems to have done the trick.(at least until SU mucks it up again) I wonder if SU thinks a toolbar is still there even when it's hidden some times. The next time this happens I'm going to check the the MRUDockID key for each hidden toolbar and see if this is the case. Invisible bars should have a DockID of 0.

Also another idea, for all of us that have to constantly rearrange bars after a bugsplat, resolution change, or plain old SU going nuts, once you have them the way you want them, close SU and export the whole SketchUp6 key in the registry to a file on your desk top. Then if they get screwed up, just close SU and import the registry file. Just an idea...
            Thanks again!

              +1

I have the same irritations with scattered toolbars every time I fire up Sketch Up and have to drag them around to where I want them every time...I'd love to see a fix/patch or ruby for this.
Anyone know how to set Sketch Up to open to maximum screen view every time when it opens instead of opening to a squashed or mininmized) view? It seems to exacerbate the scattered toolbars problem.

              Cheers, all.

ah well, it works so far, just means i have to get to work 5 mins earlier in order to start in time.

                  Hi All
                  ❓
I had the same PIA too and just gave up until this thread drove me to give it another shot to try to fix.
                  💭
I use dual monitors and stick most of the Window/Menus on #2 and they would never stay put on SU re-boot. 😠

Stuff you may not have figured out.
Some of the menus are hardwired to stack on top of each others and will refuse to tile down.
[Materials]is the only that seems to allow other menus to tile down below and not move around on SU re-boot and it seems also be hard wired in code.
The sequence below does seem to stay put OK.

                  [Outliner][Layers][Materials]
                  -------------------- [Styles]
                  -------------------- [Shadow Settings]
                  -------------------- [Components]

I also set other menus on the Active Screen Toolbar (monitor #1)and they do stay put too.

                  [file loaded][SketchUp Pro][menu][menu] etc.

Just save in a template and at least on the PC it seems bullet proof.
                  Check it out.

It's Friday here and time for some donuts.

I keep trying to save and restore the toolbars by exporting and merging the SketchUp6 registy keys, but it has never worked for me. Has anyone been successful doing it this way? If so, it could be made into an automated plugin.

                    Hi

.exe's can edit the registry, right?

What if one replaced their Sketchup icon with a small program that put all of the toolbars in their correct positions, and then opened Sketchup for you?

I have no idea if this would work or not, and I'm no programer. Now's as good as a time to start as any other, I guess.

making the toolbars smaller kinda a workaround for the problematic toolbars

I think that worst than having to reorganize the toolbar, as well as the icons, is to have to remember where they were in the first place.

So once I have all my menus and toolbars in place I do a print screen of sketchup and save the image somewhere I can refer back once sketchup has bugger up.

I know this is not ideal, but it may save you a couple of minutes.

Let me know if someone come up with a definite solution.

                            Cheers
