After you take a section cut, is it possible to define the depth of field if you will, or the clip out whats in the background up to a defined distance. It would be nice to be able to define the distance of view in the section plane with a push pulling of the section cut itself. Then one could type the magnitude of the view say from 0'- 4' beyond. 😎

I dont think thats possible, although like you say, it would be cool.

          that would be cool indeed.

there was a nice thread some time ago about section volumes instead of mere section faces - a wonderful idea in my opinion because you can create complex cutting geometries... πŸ˜†

a little workaround for us (until SketchUp 7 πŸ˜„ ) is to place your section plane, group it together with the model and then insert a second section plane at the other end of the model, cutting away what you want to hide in the distance...

I might have misunderstood your request, but couldn't you just use 2 section cuts to get that look?

I suppose you could do it with 2 section cuts, but then youd have to mess about grouping geometry. I tihnk if your going to do that you might as well just draw a big plane in the background.

Yes, as Jacob says, the trick is to do a cut and then group, then cut within group.
Takes several steps to do this. I think a ruby script could perhaps be done:

                1. cut section
                2. specify depth of section via vcb or picking, done! πŸ˜„
