Podium and sketchup
-
dilema......
podium, easy and nice result but......
podium doesn't support sections. i want to use podium to make nice shadings of my floorplans. the only way i can see that happening is by cutting up my model 5 feet above each floor (making a plane for each section, exploding the whole model, do the intersecting thing.....with this sketchup is exploding itself, it's a big model etc.etc. a lot of work, and the model gets messy because of having to explode all groups and components.does anybody have suggestions

You can have a copy of your model that you can butcher to your (and Podium's) needs.
The problem with sectuions is that they just control visibility and not part of the geometry that could be rendered physically correct.I've been dreaming of this feature (of the export plugin to Kerkythea) for long but the developer hasn't been able to solve it yet (the current version of Podium uses Kerkythea's engine actually)*

Gaieus,
that's what i'm doing now. i made a copy of the file and making a mess of that one.....while doing that, i just thought, there is probably easier way of doing this. apperently not.

I know Fryrender and Maxwell render has a 'clip' option, where you can setup the 'clip distance'. All in the front of that distance will be clipped from the view.
However you will still need to use Photoshop to fill the walls (they appear hollow) in the section with a color, so it looks as a plan section.I don't know if the non-unbiased render engines (Kerkythea, Vray, Artlantis) have such an option.
OT: @Gaieus: war? me? Nah...I am peaceful

KT can't handle section cuts with current version, but I'm sure it will be available in the future...

Like Kwist - I'm also a peaceful guy...

Artlantis has a clipping option. It is like a stretchable box, and everything outside it is hidden.
