ADVICE NEEDED Re: Running SU on PC & Laptop
-
I have searched the Forum for an answer to this question.
I have been running SU on my office PC for a couple of years, and now I have bought a laptop so I can take my work homw rather than stay in the office....
.....so the question is, how do I run SU on my laptop and my PC?
I have tried to copy it from my PC, but it wont work. I am running out of time and need to do this urgently.
Do I need to download it again and if that is the case, how do I get the necessary authorisation to run it...??
Thank you in advance.
Gareth

Why not download the free version for your laptop and copy over all your rubys from desktop.
You can do all but export in other 3D formats with free version (oh, and layout) but can keep working at home so that when you get to work you save the .skp and open it on main machine that has the pro license.

Hi Solo,
Yeh, I saw that suggestion somewhere in an old topic.
The problem is that I need it to be fully functional so that when I arrive in my office after working at home, the whole thing will happen seamlessly...including setting up layouts etc.
it's all about making these deadlines which seem to be more plentiful these days...!!

The user name, serial number, and authorization code used for the version of SU you have on your desktop computer can be used for installing the same version on your laptop. You can install SU on more than one computer, but can run only one instance of it at a time (unless you have a mutliple seat license).

yes Daniel, i know......but what i dont know is how to get it from my PC to my laptop successfully, and easily.

Just download Pro 6 to your laptop and then add the serial details from your main computer.
Once trial version is installed go to Help/License and add the required info to validate.Edit:
Looking into this a little further, im not sure if this is allowed running on two PC's.This is the Google link to be used for all License enquiries.

hello gareth,
i agree that you should download the sketchup pro version and just add the authorisation code after.
while the settings from your main computer can be easily copy paste in the secondary computer using a usb or external harddrive. i usually store the settings on my usb like the components, materials, tools, plugins, and styles so i have a backup incase i have to work in a different place.

thanks...i'll try that idea....hopefully it doesn't conflict with the license agreement.
I have actually asked Admin...but they havn't responded yet

The whole help centre at sketchup.google.com has been totally re-organised so I cannot find the part now but yes, I specifically remember that you can have SU Pro installed and licensed with your license key on several computers BUT you are not supposed to run them at the same time. It did specifically brought this particular example: your desktop at home (office - wherever) and your laptop to go out to the site.

Great advice...I was needing this question answered too.
Thanks!

I've just got my first laptop too and had no problems authorising su on it with my existing details.
What I am trying to figure out however is how to transfer my shortcuts and other preferences.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
baz.ps: its an hp 8610p. 2.5ghz 17"ws, nvidea quadro nvs320, and its a ripper:)

Sure, go to Window>Preferences and go to the shortcuts tab. Then click on export and save the .dat file somewhere like on a flash drive or a network location.
Then do the same on the laptop, but choose import instead of export. Good luck
Chris
PS There used to be a bug where commands that already had a shortcut assigned would'nt get updated correctly. I don't know if that was ever fixed or not, but I think it was....
