There are NO dates for SU 7.

Ifwe knew, we wouldn't be able to tell you. (It's called a "Non-Disclosure Agreement.")
So now we know you have signed one...
Anssi

Quite a lot of the folks here have signde that NDA, Anssi. And I guess that shouldn't even be a secret...
-
It's reassuring to hear that some SCF people get the chance to be on the 'inside'.
Hopefully some render engine users are on board as well (you know: the ones that need high poly working etc...).Good news....looking forward to lucky number seven already
-
I wish Google would hurry up and release SU7 already. I don't know why it should be such a huge secret. Anyhows, I wish they would at least give us an indication of release date.
I hope Layout has seen some work, it is so d.a.m.n...s.l.o.w...!
-
You know, I dont know why its such a big SECRET. @lastsoftware disclosed upgrade dates and what was in the upgrade, and so do other CAD software products.
The disadvantage of Google not doing this is obvious...We simply look elsewhere for other packages that do what we want them to do when we need them to it. I think there are a lot of programs around now all copying the SU push pull modeling and Google should be careful that they dont upset to many people.
I'm upset! Not even the distributers of SU know when its coming. How can people plan for the future, if they dont know what SU next "great" features will be.
Add your thoughts..
-
Hm. If I called the shots at Google, I'd choose for the same approach. Why? Rumours + growing anticipation = good FREE advertising.
Also, I'd guess even though some people would be annoyed, no-one would actually switch to another modeler. And I'd be right too.
From a customer's point of view I somewhat agree with you, though.

I like the ability to import / export GIF animated image files in Sketchup "free"
Like adding animation moving pictures to a model in sketchup "free" -
All this hubbub is self imposed, prodded along by "in the know" pundits, and seems to be "enjoyed" by the folks "sharing our pain"...is kinda funny...sorta...so:
BAH! HUMBUG!
(My NDA, if I had one, would force me to bite my tongue, ouch!, and say no more...so please see this post by lewiswadsworth, thank you very much Lewis, on Sat May 17, 2008 2:23 pm:
"I also spoke with Aidan for a while. He said he is enjoying the conspiracy theories expressed here.
Yes there is a SketchUp 7.0--no they haven't let it out even to beta testers yet--no they don't know when because they're still working on it...")

Scrooge said that too. Look what happened to him.
Would you rather I had not posted anything? Should those of us going to Mountain View keep mum as well?
-
Hell no! Thank God for the info you shared! All this hubbub got me very excited (and then got me very depressed thinking I was out alone in the cold :`)
Just saying you cleared up the confussion for me and was hoping to put others at ease as well by making sure they saw the valuable info you so kindly shared...and hoping for more of the same, to be sure, about the next gathering I won't be able to attend in person.
Please do! and more please!
(FYI...the Scrooge metaphor was intentionally chosen hoping it would come true...in spades!)

No problem, Tom...I had mis-interpreted your previous post.
I've been led to believe by Aidan that there will be more information and previews shown at 3D Basecamp.
-
YEH!
-
Oh...I see. No, Lewis, you weren't among the "pundits" I was refering to...no "hidden" hype in your posts at all, thank you very much.
-
well it must be one hell of an upgrade as they are taking so long.
probably packed with lots of great new ideas for making our design lives easier - i hope!
-
if our representatives at 3DBasecamp were made to sign an NDA the logical conclusion is: there is something worth hiding being developed by google. i find this good news.

But have we heard that they have signed a NDA..??
I haven't... -
Could be part of the NDA
chuckles at all the speculation
-
Yeah... Or perhaps they've signed an NDA covering the NDA...
GREAT cover up... -
NDAs for everyone! (if only.)
-
As long as they don't cover up the fact there isn't any real progress... Just kidding, from the limited feedback we've had from the big G there is progress, just no telling how much.
To tell the truth, with all the good work the ruby programmers/scripters (I'm not going to name anyone in specific, they all have contributed to some or other extent) are doing and people creating awesome plugins for SU - both commercial and free - I'm not too bothered about when the next version of SU will be released any more.
I am, however, bothered that they upgrade the base programming so as to take advantage of multiple processor technologies, be 64 bit compatible, and fix a few other bugs.
