3D Rendering
-
Hi all,
I'm interested in the references to 3 dimentional rendering. Is there a tut or discussion somplace that explains this trick?
My work-around is time consuming: I build the object, smooth it then make the top, front, back and two sides into groups and render them one-at-a-time. Afterwards I explode the whole thing and then make it into a new group or component. This avoids the "funny, streaked side business" but it's a lot of work.
TomPS with my new Subdivide & Smooth, the stones are coming along nicely.

When you say 3D rendering do you mean as in real-time rendering of the sort that would let you orbit around a model while its being rendered?
If this is the sort of thing you mean id recomend having a look at the lightup plugin (see the ruby forum), its more of a lighting simulator, rather than a fully blown render engine but it could work depending on what sort fo detail you want.
Apart from that i think your best bet would be game engines, although i know very little about them i tihnk they could probably do what you want. Places to start looking are probably the cryengine and the UT engine (i cant remeber what its called.)

Hi Remus,
I don' think it's that sophisticated. Solo (pete) sometimes talks about projecting textures from three sides (I think) at once, thus avoiding the streaky sides you get from rendering a 3d object from one side only.

Yeah, thats a bit simpler to do i'll do a quick tut...

Here you go, sorry it's os rough, i havent got the patience for good tuts.

Thanks, Remus. That was very clear.
