the faces are outside of a group or component as 'loose geometry' does this change things?

      Thanks Chris,
Thats encouraging β€” and yes things wont be any more complicated than the posted example β€” do you know what method/attributes I should be looking at? to scale and orient the component according to the corresponding face. Or if there is an example plugin out there that has this functionality?

      Good point xrok1,
      I guess I should elaborate,
This plugin works excellent for placing components on the face 'centroid' and 'normal' to the face. I was hoping there might be a way to also auto rotate (perhaps even scale) the component according to face?

      • Going through chris pine's ruby tutorial and thinking this might be a little complicated 😲

      Hello all,
I have found a couple interesting plugins that can distribute objects to faces ( http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=17306 + http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=33908 ). I was wondering if anyone knows of a similar plugin that can distribute components but also auto-adjust components according to face orientation? Is this a possible through attempting to extend one of these scripts?
Any leads would be most appreciated!

    • Face area - DC or ruby ?

      Hello all,
Thanks for all the great resources they have been very helpful as I start to learn the world of ruby and dynamic components. I was wondering how to best approach a problem - whether through dynamic components or rubyscript...I have seen several examples of face area calculators but have yet to see one that digs into components. End goal: generate a report that summarizes face area according to material in each component (sensitive to scaling). Can this be done in DC? I noticed that the facearea function does not adjust if the component is scaled. Or am I better off trying to loop through components expanding on one of the ruby script snippets posted on this forum? any help would be much appreciated!
