    • Estimating calculations ruby / plugin

I have been asked by an associate to look into the possibility of a "plugin" for sketchup that would allow him to select a face in sketchup and assign specific characteristics for the face, which would then be calculated into a matrix. He wants to take the face and multiply a designated coefficient with the square footage to get the labor time and costs for various landscape beds in his project. he is making the faces on a google earth map and then wants to do his estimating out of the model... any ideas of where to start or if anything like this exists.

    • RE: [school work] office building

I like the way the palm trees are visible but the transparency allows them to give a sense of scale without distracting from the architecture.

what software are you using to color the model with? most great material renderings are done outside of SU!

    • RE: Need some advice on textures

you want your textures to tile, you just want the tiles to be seam-less and non-repeating (no obvious elements that make a distinct pattern), tileable textures are your friend, especially with stone, block, and wood textures.

    • RE: Themeing Models and Rendering

actually for the ropes and netting I just create a new layer and then set a stroke to the outside of the brush stroke and make that stroke dark gray and paint with white physically painting in the netting a ropes, the stroke adds to parallel edges that give the illusion of ropes or netting, the writing on the live bait sign is drawn by hand, and the Great white signage is done in photoshop text tool

    • RE: Themeing Models and Rendering

thank you for all the kind comments. I have been working on a number of different styles, but my clients seem to come back to this one everytime. I build the model and added the palms, and people in SketchUp, and then take it into photoshop. I then inserted a photo of a great white shark and "traced" it in, and then added the ropes and netting in photoshop, finally I sketched in some plant materials and finally I color it. I don't know what to call it sometimes it looks like acrylic paints and sometimes it looks like markers... I still want to learn how to use a rendering program but for now this seems to make the clients happy.

    • RE: Where to get the trees used in the disneyland resort Paris?

you could make them they are just photoreal images trimmed and placed at 90 degrees to each other with the trunk being the ceter of the two images.

    • RE: Hospital Clay Rendering

Cool and fun rendering, my only comment is the glass on the cars is a bit distracting, other than that I think it is a great rendering, can you post an image of the SU model?

    • Themeing Models and Rendering

Just wanted to get some feedback on my latest work. A signage and theme study for a potential water park-like project. I will color the other images If the client wants to proceed, or if I find some extra time and want to do them for myself.
      C&C welcome and wanted

    • RE: My Seastead Design Contest Entry

I really like the sketchy style, you need to refine the sky a little bit (I have the most troble with skies so that is something I really lok at) but I like the building and the model, a few more images would help to see the total design IMHO.
