Well...we haven't actually seen one yet??!! A picture would do. You don't have to gave away any of your undoubtedly hard won secrets. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ok, although I provided a 2D graphic of the model in the second image above! Is it a wireframe that you'd like to see?! Tell me what exactly you'd like to see and I will comply, you little doubting Thomas!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think it looks great but on the second (edited image) I think the corners on the wooden panels look too sharp (the high reflection could be making them look very sharp, maybe decrease the reflection setting too).

Great job. Very close. How did you handle getting the same textures and images as the original.

Thank you! For such a small scene, it really was time consuming to replicate! I know that some of the components aren't a complete match (the arm of the sofa and the orange lamp could be more curved) but the colour balance was a HUGE issue! And I just couldn't get the grey in the cushions to match!! I'm putting this down to the graphics people editing the image of the original front cover quite a lot. For example, the paint colour on the wall in the original front cover does not reflect the ACTUAL paint colour at all. It's much darker in reality. So this challenge was really about using the Level/Colour Balance/Curves in Photoshop to try and get the toning in my replication to match!!

I have a pretty decent collection of textures/bump maps in my own library, so I used a lot of those but the wood texture on the coffee table was a tricky one to reproduce. I had to avail of Photoshop quite a bit to try and make it look similar.

The rug was a nightmare. That was the closest Herringbone texture I could find! I couldn't get the shelving unit to be positioned at the same angle as the original image. I'm wondering if artistic license was used in the original to make it appear so parallel to the camera? I could have removed parts of the shelves to make appear that way too but I didn't want to play around with my final image too much because it might have looked a bit 'off'.

    • Ideal Home Magazine Challenge

I recently set myself a 3D modeling/visualisation challenge to replicate the front cover of a Homes magazine (Ideal Home - it's printed in the UK). I thought this would have been a useful exercise to demonstrate just how accurate and effective photo-real software truly is.

Here's the two final images (the original and my version).

And here's the link to the blog post I wrote about this challenge.

      Hope you find it interesting!

Thanks Bryan, it takes a little bit of time, yes! I use a combination of Photoshop and After Affects, sometimes I have to create the transitions frame by frame but I enjoy the creative outlet ๐Ÿ˜„

These are fun. I like where it gets all grey suddenly. A little spooky. I'd almost married again if I could have everything in the room flash changing colors like that...

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜› I'm glad you liked it! Haha, yea the flashing colours is pretty cosmic!

Like Mike, I also feel that you've spend too much time with the After Effect studio...
It's a nice model and render, but I would prefer some more shots from different angles rather than all these effects based on the same angle...
It kind of takes away the professionalism from the animation... ๐Ÿ˜

You could have blended in some real photos from the place and/or some close-up shoots of some flowers, and/or a table place, where you see the plate, knifes and forks, glasses and as a nice touch a table card with the name of the bride and groom...
      Just ideas... ๐Ÿ˜„

      Hi Kim,

Some good ideas there; I will definitely create an animation with different angles - this is something I'd like to do anyway at some point. Trying to get the time to do these is the problem ๐Ÿ˜

I'm not able to blend with actual photos, as this requires permission from the client and THEIR clients. Too much hassle. I did include an image of the actual space at the start of the animation though, so that you could draw comparisons between the real-life interior and my 3D model, baring in mind that I created the 3D model with absolutely no dimensions. It was constructed all by eye using that photo. This happens a lot when I create 3D models for event design companies.

Sorry, not a fan of the close-up of the names of the Bride and Groom! Too sickly sweet for my liking!

      Thanks for your feedback!

Sorry, too many different music themes and changes of tempo in that for me, it comes across as disjointed and confusing. Simplified it might work better but, this is just one opinion.

Hey Mike, yes it does come across as very changeable but I've only used two different songs. When I used only one song/tempo in the past, a lot of the viewers stopped watching the video before it reached the end. I'm using a similar style to that of music videos to keep the audience engaged. Not necessarily my preference but it's a reflection of how short the concentration span can be these days!
