      Hi guys,

This month I've changed all FREE textures for download and I also upgraded them to 1024x1024. see them here:
      http://www.photosculpt.net/blog/2010...s-10-pack.html

here is a tutorial I made on how create them / use them: 👍
      http://www.photosculpt.net/dump/2010...osculpt-t.html

Can someone explain how these settings work with Sketchup Pro? I think they can be used by external renderers as well?

I created much more textures now (46 at the time I'm posting). 🎉
      http://www.photosculpt.net/gallery/3d-materials/

Not all are ready for download yet. But for the first time at http://www.photosculpt.net
I'm selling some of them here from Eur 5.99
      http://www.photosculpt.net/buy-3d-textures-now/

I also have a very nice Flash 3D viewer 😍 in front page at http://www.photosculpt.net featuring some models created with my software.

      I think that's all

Does any one has made any artwork with last month's free textures yet? I really want to see that! 😄

Don't forget there is a challenge every end of the month. http://www.photosculpt.net/challenge/
you can win a free license (value Eur 99.00)

Free Material samples are here: http://www.photosculpt.net/blog/2010/9/1/the-best-quality-seamless-tileable-3d-textures-ever.html

      http://www.photosculpt.net/storage/images/materials.JPG

I think those materials are beautiful, what do you think?

Has anyone any questions about using PhotoSculpt? I've seen beautiful renders with SU recently. Who want to give a try to those Free samples?

I've took these two photos of a waterfall I'm building, with the intention of trying to do a photosculpt. Results are not so good. Any suggestions for better images or how to give it more depth?

      Hello Earthmover, nice fountain!

that's easy: your images are taken too far apart. Way beyond repair. You need to shoot them again I'm sorry.

If you want to know if your images are taken too far apart: as per the tutorial 2 (link below), check you images on your camera screen after shooting. Going back and forth front and right image should make the subject "dance" or "rock". Like an animated movie? It's maybe difficult to explain it right as my english is limited.
Here the front rock moves by 25% of the image (big move!), the left rock almost dissapear and change shape. = that tells me it's too much for photosculpt I'm sorry.

See other points from the tutorial 2 for more info: http://www.photosculpt.net/tutorial/

It should work in the end, that's an easy subject. 👍

not particularly fond of hardware locking either. now that i think about it more i think the water mark method may actually be the best. unlimited length for trial, unlimited resolution but add watermarks to everything. just don't get carried away with watermarks. some software put so many you can't even see your work after.

Well, I did it the other way around = no watermark and time limited. 😉

They also have a computer specific licensing method and the key will only work on one computer with a certain OS install (so if you move to another computer, change hardware or reinstall OS, you need to get a new auth key) These are all good ways to minimize piracy (cannot fully eliminate it of course) but when it is so cumbersome already, users will tend to rather buy the product - especially if it is so well priced as PhotoSculpt (or in fact twilight, too - exactly the same price 😉 )

      Thanks!

I can do that, it's called "hardware locking". But ... as a user I don't like it 😕 . Maybe one day? What do you think?

another thought. i think someone may be more likely to pirate software (download pirated software) that's doesn't have a full featured demo. sometimes its the only way to fully try it out without buying it first 😢 . also someone may have a pirated copy of a software they only use once or twice, but if the need to use it increases they are likely to get a legit license at that point because that's the software they're comfortable with. (provided its not ridiculously priced)
in short it doesn't seem to me that you will lose legitimate customers to pirates.
      😉

I made my mind and followed your advice.

My 30 day trial is now FULL FEATURED since yesterday evening.

Just download it (now here on first page http://www.photosculpt.net) and install it again and your trial will continue with save options now)

      see here http://www.photosculpt.net/blog/2010/3/15/save-and-export-functions-turned-on-for-the-30-days-trial.html

I can see the dilemma, to open it up or not. I wonder if it would make any sense using the Google SketchUp model? How about a free version with limited resolution and a pro version with unlimited resolution.

Hey, that's an idea! 👍 👍 what should the limited resolution be in your mind (256x256) ?
I actually first thought of just doing a ".sculpt" file viewer at first. (Of course unlimited in texture size)

Thanks for posting guys that's really cool. I also think that photosculpt makes beautiful normal maps. But that quality cannot be seen unless rendered in ones's software.

Concerning the 10 saves, well thank you for proposing, but I don't like it. I want simple. And simple may just be recompile the demo with full save options turned on as you proposed. It will be a big present for pirats 😉 they will thank me!
I need to think about it. thanks for your time!

Had fun playing with the Demo version on screen. Disappointed that there are no export capabilities in the Demo version. I'd never buy this program without knowing how it will integrate into my workflow or what I can do with the mesh beyond the PS interface. I'd say you'd do better with a 30 day fully functional trial period.

Do you really think so? That's an interesting point of view 😲 . Who shares the same opinion? Is this 30 day trial without save option too strict? 😞
You'll understand that i'm trying to protect my software (... against illegal use like the people that change their computer's clock every months or so. I've done that myself, I know what I'm talking about (one month and only once) 😉 😳 ). If PhotoSculpt is loosing sales because of this overprotection, then this is not a good thing to do right at release 😠 ! Please advise?

      Little test with Chaoscope 😄
A crazzy prog who has not 3D file export only 2D images but can rotate in "3D view" the current view of parameters 😄
So you can make 2 images with any rotations like a camera 😉
      Then use Photosculpt 😎

This is cool, I love this ChaoScope. The images on that link are great! 🎉

Just take 2 photos from the front face of your object, and 2 photos from the backface 😉
      And past the result

Yes that will work, I expect some manual rework as the sides will look like stretched UV but nothing impossible.

I have a similar example here, one side only.

well i think that's a pretty reasonable decision on the price.

True. I would also priced it a bit higher (but of course, I don't want to give ideas - hipe-O know that anyways...)

Thanks guys for your feedback. I'm pleased the price is ok for you. It's a difficult question and from the marketing study that you guys helped on (thanks!) I think this is reasonable.

Q: there is a thread I didn't knew about but strangely I cannot access it when I'm logged in "You are not authorised to read this forum." : http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=25791 My web site detected trafic from it and they seem to have questions. Well, I did say it was a naive question.
I am not even sure if Directx and OpenGL have any compatibility issues or not, or whether some graphics cards are dependent on one or the other.
I just need to do some more research for my own understanding.
      Thanks for your reply, hipe-0.

Don't worry, there are no "naive questions". Hoping to have helped you or reassured you. I tested the software on xp, win 7 , vista, 32, 64 bits it runs on all configurations.
I don't know about graphic cards that are opengl only. That may well exist on pc or maybe only with unix workstations. Anyone knows?

I notice system requirements mentions DirectX 9. Here's my naive question:
What does this mean relative to SU's use of OpenGL, and some video cards? Does this create any limitations?

I'm not entirely sure to understand your question Mitcorb, sorry?

PhotoSculpt uses the DirectX9 api from Microsoft.
Those Dx9 functions are part of dx10 and dx11 too and run with no problem if you have them installed.

One limitation is if you have dx8 only, whitch is rare, then it won't work.

I have no plan to make use of opengl today, do you need that?

I hope to have answered your question?

To jolran, don't be sorry that was a good question! 👍

      UV:
This is simple: it's a regular grid flat projected onto the model, based on the camera main axis.

I like this as it basically gives best results: it always work, it makes no seams and all textures you create are directly fully usable onto the model.

UVs are automatically created when exporting the model.
So you don't really mess with them. If by any chance you need to change something, you can still do it within your own 3d app.
You cannot for instance polypaint or unwrap within photosculpt.

      Hoping this made sense?
