    • RE: Mies @ home

Thanks Hieru, your right about the contrast but i think i could create a B&W version in post for that. I thought a color version without any tweaks should be first, the image you see is straight from maxwell. Regarding the figure, well that's another challenge ! Perhaps i will come back to that later lol. I have been trying to master makehuman but i just cannot operate the pose tools. I can get his face pretty close, but in the best case scenario he is going to be naked ! I have been searching for ages for a similar figure it's near impossible. I do have a seated man from axyz which i was going to try perhaps i will update the thread later. For now i think it's kind of poignant that he is missing (plus easier). Happy 125th birthday Mies.

PS if any uber modelers want a crack at modeling the figure please jump onboard.

    • Mies @ home

This is another Mies van Der Rohe tribute from me. Modelled in sketchup & rendered in Maxwell. I believe the original photograph was taken at Mies's home. The image has been haunting me for a long time, i thought it would make a good challenge. This took a lot of fiddling with the camera and geometry until i was happy (ish). Many thanks to forum member Richard who helped me up the benchmark so the white areas had a chance of clearing up.

There is not really a lot to comment on here. I think you should put the ceiling in on the internal views and position the camera better perhaps at eye level. Also make the views more interesting and work on your materials.

Sounds like a top tip there Richard thanks, i still see noise at SL 19 after 27 hrs but it's a big image, it's showing a 630 benchmark .I previously noticed that hdri illuminated images render out a lot quicker. I think i'll sit this one out as i've spent about a week making adjustments to the modelling. I'll post it here in a couple of days lol (it's another Mies homage)

it's just that i'm waiting on a render at the moment using the physical sky at 15 mega pixels it's kinda slow even on my 12 core beast lol. What sort of benchmark does a scene like this give ? Ps there's no feet on the sofa 😉

Hey Brookefox i posted this a while back take a look it even features a chicken !:

      http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=43722

i'd avoid fur with such large spaces it's heavy on geometry and sketchup will balk under the load.

    • RE: Sketchup is Inacurrate???

I've seen complaints about models distorted and skewed when imported to Max. These are usually from the 3d snobs using pirated software. I calmly explain to them that if they have a licensed subscription version of max that a sketch up importer is available and works fine. I've never used max personally but i've seen people dragging geometry randomly about, and of course i've received some really horrific auto cad files. It seems to me that autocad makes you sloppy ?

Looks fun, is it based on a toucan ? Prettu impressive 3d model as well it even picked up the delicate parts along the back although they look super fragile ! Does the the 3d printer create the colored version or is applied later ?

    • RE: New project

I think some creative cropping is needed, bring the birds down and try 16/9 maybe even rotate the view a touch. The tarmac texture is too flat and un-interesting also the hard horizon at the rear left is distracting. The Building itself looks well modelled and interesting however with this (retail?) scenario you have to dress the interiors behind all that glass. I know this problem it's a nightmare the client wants thousands of objects and people ! I got around this before by placing images of storefronts from google on planes behind the glass. At this range no one will realize and it will help colour up the area. Also a bit more love parking spaces, different color cars etc etc.I would also suggest an eye level view. What render engine did you use ?

Thanks guys, Richard yes i added them in Studio they are from evermotion archmodels vol 61. I enjoyed making this model i think it ended up being 40mb plus i used a lot of components for the grass the model was actually quite manageable (for a change lol).
