    • RE: Advice Needed On Tank Track design.

hello, i dont think i can help with proper tank tracks but in the past ive made fake tank tracks. They are simply part of the tank body set to Ignore which look similar to the tracks. depending how well they are made then can look amazing and realistic.

Searh on the 3D warehouse for Camokid11 and look at some of the tanks ive made and see how i did it.

if you need anymore help, just send me a message, and ill try and get back to you.

      hope this helps ๐Ÿ˜„

    • RE: Joints not connecting on groups when part of components

try exploding the wing (or wings) and then making them into a group, not a component. that should work.

    • RE: Newbie - Why does my model act like it does?

right, sorry about not re-posting, i got cought up in some things.

basicly the problem you have is what i call the peg and hole problem.

Because of sketchyup's physics or something like that, it wont recognise a hole in an object. therefore what youve done is the exact same thing

because youve made a cylinder and modeled it off of that, it will mean sketchup recognises as each sylinder as solid, but yours are not solid as they have a hole through it.

      Solution

there are some soultions, one easier than others but they have advantages and disadvantages.

      1. you simply have to add hidden geometrics to the model. may sound complex but its not.
you will need to make a new set or rods or bars in a cylinder to allow an object to go through it. there are two ways to do this, one adds more polies, groups, and possibly lag. but offers a better result.

the second way offers a simple way, but results mean it wont act like a cylinder if needed.
The second way is similar to making hidden geometry as a cylinder, however, you make it a cube or rectangle insted. this way's much easier, but it doesnt act like a cylinder if you need it to roll. but it will slide in and out when needed.

just follow the model provided and it should help you. any more question feel free to ask and ill get round to answering them.

      again sorry for the delay.

ahhhhh, i see, another sketchyphysics collision problem.

this problem can be basic and can be quite advanced. give me some time to look at the model and ill come back to this in a few hours or so. (sorry it couldnt be sooner)

a very quick edit: ive seen it and i kow the problem. and possibly a way to solve it, however it may take a while. ill show how later.

hi, within this post http://sketchupusers.vacau.com/index.php?topic=115.msg1292#new there is a link to a dropbox which has Sketchup 7 installer file (just look through it and find the link)

thats if you want Sketchup 7 back.

    • RE: Windows 7, Sketchup 8 and SP 3 issues

hi Joe, i think i can explain this.

      http://sketchupusers.vacau.com/index.php?topic=115.msg1267#new

this topic basicly asked the same question, and the conclusion was Sketchup 8 uses a newer version of ruby which isnt liked by Sketchyphysics (all version i believe).

Sketchup 7 works fine on windows 7, but Sketchup 8 i havnt tried.

My advice, if you can, switch back to sketchup 7 to use sketchyphysics.

    • RE: My hinges, motors and servos don't have axles

that little x marks the exact center of the joint. this is also where the center of an axle would be.

    • RE: Sketchy Physics Code Sections not showing

also, try make a box first and try the UI on that first. it might work.

try that before reinstalling anything, or trying my previous advice.

      A small test

a small test to see if ontick does work, just put this script into the ontick field

      if key('space')==1;UI.messagebox("This script works!");end

start the simulation and press space and a message should come up.

    • RE: Sketchy Physics Code Sections not showing

can you please tell me which folder you placed the sketchyphysics into?

what i did was copy all of the files in the plugin folder from sketchu 7 into the plugin folder of sketchup 8. that seems to work fine. you could use that as a last resort.

    • RE: My hinges, motors and servos don't have axles

Normally at the center of a hinge, motor, servo joint there is a small "cross" which marks the center. if you want an axle.

There is a way of changing the shape of joints, by trying to find the induvidual model within the sketchup folder and editing and changing the shape, but i havnt personally done that and i wouldn't recommend it as it might not work again.

      hope this helps a little

    • RE: How to make things Break?

      you either:

      1. use a breaking joint and play with the settings to so it breaks at the right amount of force you need.

      or

      1. make a system with interlocking parts that come apart when yu hit it hard enough.

    • RE: Slider Problem

hmmm right, i think ive found the problem. Its the collision geomatry.

youve set one to nocollison in the UI menu.

      • When you open the UI menu, click on the part going wrong.
      • At the top of the UI box, there are loads of tick-boxes. One of them should say nocollison.
      • Click this and then it should not collide with anything.

Now press play and it should work.

    • RE: Problems with joint connect

did you say you connected the joint to the body then group it with the wheel and join.

      simply:

      • group wheel and join together
      • select join connector tool
      • connect the join to the other object.

this should work/solve your problem of the joint connector not working. because you proberbly think that the join is already connected before you group it, however when you group it it removes the connection (if you understand, cus to me it seems im not explaining it right)

    • RE: Slider Problem

so ive seen the model. i cant really understand what your trying to say, can you explain it more.

do you want the flange thingy to go under the block ontop, or what?

      cus from what you said,

      @unknownuser said:

I don't get it to slide over the cylinder.

to me, the flange thingy does go over the cylinder.

can you explain it in more detail plese.

      thanks.

    • RE: Big Joints

the main reason for this is your model is small. (but it hasnt stopped people in the past)

      somethings you can do are:

      1. make your whole model bigger, so the join size doesnt change.

      2. use the scale tool to scale downt he joint and then replace it back to its position (you may want to make a small mark of where the center position was before hand)
