Quite a few members here might well be Muslim themselves and find such sentiments totally repugnant.

Did you came to the defense of Christians on the other threads which denigrated Christianity?

Mr S., what a great web site!! A word of advice to others, I think it's better to watch the split screen presentation, so click on the duelity button, not the creationism or evolution buttons.

Pretty well sums up the whole discussion, IMO.

Because at the root of conservatism (the real deal) lies very strong and sound values such as self-reliance, work-ethic, belief in community and self-determination (usually against larger metropolitan politics) that really make part of US what it is and what people have come to admire, however, they are so easily manipulated. Give them abortion and gay marriage they fall in drove to some corporate elite smart-ass who have researched conservative value down to the T and parrot what they wanna hear (Bush owns a ranch! so what!?? he comes from a multi-million dollar oil tycoon background, he is NOT one of you!). The conservatives need to wakeup to behind the scenes manipulationif you stick to true conservative values.

Conservatives are easily manipulated. That's a laugher. Have you been paying any attention to the bullshit "the snake-oil salesman with the huge advertising budget" has been spewing? This nitwit appeals to the gullible voters who believe the big give-away is coming. Talk about manipulation!

At least I have the intellectual honesty to see that both parties are extremely flawed.

Junior has done more damage to this country and the Republican party than you can imagine. EDIT: I voted for Bush twice, so I am particularly pissed. He betrayed conservative principles.

Which ones would that be? I'm not being sarcastic, btw. πŸ’š

Twice, eh? Fool me once ... πŸ˜†

The conservative principles I refer to are just what Chango mentions: "...self-reliance, work-ethic, belief in community and self-determination...". The political principles Bush betrayed are, to name a few, initiating the steel tariff when he first took office (anti-self reliance), the Medicare bill (which was nothing more a liberal give away), "authoring" the current bailout legislation in which the Fed now buys preferred stock in banks (socialism), doing absolutely NOTHING about our porous borders (pandering to the illegal Mexicans).

If I took more time I could come up with many more. This may surprise you, but the one thing I support Bush on is the war in Iraq. Now, I do NOT want to enter into discussion on this right now.

Thanks for your support, Mr S. You get it.

...If you only make policy that is popular rather than what you think is good for the country then why bother having elections at all?...

This is precisely why I oppose Obama. His tax cut proposal is nothing more than a cheap and transparent technique to buy votes. For one thing, he is trying to buy the votes of the 40% of Americans who don't pay any taxes by offering them a rebate check. This is policy, while popular for the 40%, is not good for the country.

LOL...a better title to your thread would be "American politics according to a dopey liberal Brit"

Who said I was a Brit? hmm? What makes you think I am a liberal? Doesn't that just prove how dumbed down US politics is? (liberal vs conservative) πŸ˜„. Anyway even you can't deny that Junior have done for US foreign relations what nobody could have conceived 8 years ago.

The dopey liberal Brit I referred to is the author of the article, not you. Junior has done more damage to this country and the Republican party than you can imagine. EDIT: I voted for Bush twice, so I am particularly pissed. He betrayed conservative principles.

What the hell is wrong with MY attitude!!! I was looking for serious comments about what people will be expecting or hoping to hear tonight...as there are high expectations around the world for what we here are going to do next week. Just trying and hoping not to just get a bunch of silly crap and insults. MY ATTITUDE INDEED!

I repeat: start your own damn thread, thanks.

Mike, to me retiring means I am my own client. I'll never abandon architecture; it's too much a part of me (for better or worse).

      I'll think about this....

Perhaps some free architectural work for a suitable charity? i suppose the problem with this, though, is that it would be very easy for a few forum members to get very heavily involved with it and end up spending a disproportionate amount of their time on it.

Whatever happens, id love to get involved with a big project between everyone.

I am willing and able to dedicate free time to architectural projects for suitable charities or even "deserving" individuals or groups. I have always thought our talents should be shared with those who deserve and need it.

My current project will likely be my last (by choice), so I will have plenty of spare time to share.

Hey, I think I finally found that "liberal press" some of you guys have been talking about. What a HOOT! Thanks for the heads up!

If you don't see the liberal media bias, you've got your head in the punch bowl. Of course, I wouldn't expect a lefty like you to see it. At least I admit that Rush and Hannity are right wing.

Do you see anyone in the main stream media who is left wing? If so, who?
