Every time I need stainless or some other shiny material, I just use a big image of that material (a photograph for instance) (you can even stretch it quite a bit). Here's an example of stainless (works for glass surfaces too. Look's ok, even when moving in the model). Works pretty well for my projects even though it's not a tileable texture.
