    • RE: Scenes and Physics Simultaneously?

      @ DanYHKim (or anyone) . . .

I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee if someone can get my animation exported to a quicktime movie. The physics simulation and camera movements all work fine. I capture the animation fine. For some reason when I export the animation, it's missing the physics.

If you would like to try the file, please send me an email. Thanks.

It's not working for me. The physics and camera movement are fine, it records and plays back the animation, but when I export the animation, the physics are missing.

Can anyone else confirm /deny that physics animations with camera movement can make it all the way to a quicktime movie?

    • RE: Will pay for Sketchy Physics Animation

      Hi Solo,

The animation won't really play smoothly in real time, at least not on my machine. So a screen capture would make a big mess. I'd like every frame, and no duplicated frames.

I'd went to your site, but your contact page doesn't offer attachments. Send me an email, I will send you the Sketchup file, and you will see if you are / are not able to export the animation. If you are, then I will be happy to negotiate your fee.

    • RE: Will pay for Sketchy Physics Animation

It's possible that Twilight can render physics and camera movement both, although I haven't seen it. Plus, my last experience with ray tracing and photo realistic renders was that each frame took about 5 minutes to render. I need about 3000 frames, so that's like 10 days, and I don't really care about adding textures to this particular thingy, anyway. I just want my animation.

Does anyone wish to have a go at my model, and see if you can export the animation with physics?

    • Will pay for Sketchy Physics Animation

My model with scenes and physics simulation is just as I want it. Thanks to Mr. K's scripts, the physics runs simultaneously with the camera changes. It's a beautiful thing. I capture the animation with the red record button. I save the animation. The animation plays back fine.

Unfortunately, when I export the animation, the physics is missing. All the objects and camera motion is fine, but the physics simulation is not present.

Maybe I'm still doing something wrong. When I go to export the animation, I choose ".PNG". It makes a whole folder of individual PNG images, which then have to be converted into video. I can do that, it would be better for Sketchup just to export a Quicktime movie. But if I have to convert the PNG image sequence to video, no problem. The problem is the missing physics.

I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee to someone to successfully export this working model to video. If interested, please contact me via my email address below, put "SketchyPhysics Render" in the subject line. Thanks.

    • SketchyReplay - Hopelessly Confused

I have a complex model with camera movement and physics simulations both going on, and it works fine. I'm trying to export the animation, and cannot figure it out.

I THINK I'm supposed to do this:

      1. Toggle the red record button "down".
      2. Start the physics simulation.
      3. Stop the physics simulation.
      4. Toggle the red record button "up".
      5. Save animation.

Only, it never works that way. One problem, it keeps saying "requires Sketchyphysics 3.2". I look in my version number, and it says version 3.1. Except I thought I downloaded 3.2.

Can someone please hold my hand and give me a very methodical tutorial of how to export animation with physics and camera movement happening at the same time? Thank you very much for any help.

      I'm using 10.5.8, as mentioned.

Is there anyone who knows for sure what's up with SP and Mac?

I'm trying to run SP on Mac - either Mac Book Pro, or Quad Core Tower.
      MAC OS X 10.5.8

      Both machines give error:

      @unknownuser said:

      Error Loading File sketchyphysics.rb
      undefined method `file_loaded?' for main:Object

Is it running on Mac, or no? Thanks.

    • RE: Scenes and Physics Simultaneously?

I captured an animation using the red "toggle recording" button. After stopping the physics, it prompted me for "save animation", which I did.

      Then I did
Plugins / SketchyReplay / Export animation

And it made the correct number of frames, but the images were not correct, there was no physics and no camera movement either.

I'm still struggling to find out if I have the right SP, I believe I'm running 3.1, that's what it says in Plugins / SketchyPhysics / Version Number. But I downloaded 3.2. The installer file is named:

      SetupSketchyPhysics3.2-Dec2

but then the subtitle of the file says:

      SketchyPhysics3.1 Setup.

      So I'm confused again.

    • Confusion on Version Number

      I downloaded SP from here:

      http://code.google.com/p/sketchyphysics/downloads/detail?name=SetupSketchyPhysics3.2-Dec2.exe&can=2&q=

The installer says version 3.2, but in the subtitle of the installer, it says version 3.1. When I run SP, it says version 3.1. And I keep getting a message on screen that says "requires version 3.2".

Where is the correct place to download SP 3.2 (or whatever is current)?

      Thanks.

    • RE: Scenes and Physics Simultaneously?

Yes! Brilliant!! I copied the yellow box, and my model now magically does scenes and physics simultaneously. It's the magic yellow box!

Thank you Mr. K. Now I just have to learn how to capture and export the animations. I'm sure it has to do with the red record button in SP. I'll try to find a tutorial.

      Thanks again.

    • RE: Scenes and Physics Simultaneously?

Running your model works fine. I added some physics to your yellow box, it still worked fine.

Then I changed the camera view in Scene 2, so that the Yellow Box stayed in view. When the simulation began, it appeared to be running the old Scene 2, not the new one. So I guess I don't understand how to update Scenes so that the script sees the updates. Before the simulation ended, Sketchup crashed. Possibly related to updating the scene, possibly a coincidence.

Then I pasted the script into my model, and tried to run the simulation. I got a long error message. It wouldn't let me copy the text of the error message, otherwise I'd post it. The error message contained a lot of the script, I can see that.

I had pasted the script into the UI of a group that has physics going on. Is that the right thing to do? Does it matter which object I paste the script into?

Thanks for the input Mr. K. I wouldn't know how begin scripting scene changes. If you could figure it out, I'm sure it would be very popular. I know I'm not the only one that would like to do it.

In the video you linked, the physics simulation stops when the camera moves. See?

I'm wondering if it is possible to do both simultaneously. And if so, how? "Simultaneously" means "occurring at the same time".

I'm having great difficulty locating documentation for SketchyPhysics. Is there a proper user guide anywhere?

    • RE: Scenes and Physics Simultaneously?

I'm sorry Gaieus, but you did not understand my question. The Twilight renders that you linked to are nice physics simulations, but there is only one scene. In other words, the camera does not move.

In Sketchup, you can create many "scenes", each with a different camera location. You can export an animation, and the camera will interpolate smoothly from one scene to the next.

With SketchyPhysics, you can make physics simulations.

I want to do BOTH at the same time - transition from one scene (camera view) to another, while a simulation is running, and export that as video.

Is this possible, or not, and if so, how?
