COMPOUND ARCHES

I could use some help in creating compound interior ceiling arches (like those in churches)
I have sketchup pro 6 and tried a number of approaches but with no success.
I can provide a jpg of the interior arches I'm trying to generate if that would help.
The arches start at a point on a wall or top of a column and expand upward and outward towards the ceiling in cove type curves.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. -

These are Gothic arches - you create them differently than Jean did his in the tutorial. Is this (a QT panorama) something similar to what you mean to create (regarding your second image)?
The first image - though not clearly visible - seems to be the combination of two, simple cross vaults overlapping each other.
Here is one I made about a year ago (note that I was kind of a "newbie" that time )

This one is a bit different; you can place the vaultings next to each other to create a series of them and the ribs will form the columns between them:
If you "disassemble" the vault, you can get to one piece that you can modify according to your needs.
I'd need some more pictures for the other view. That's not used in medieval architecture (afaik) and both pictures seem to be some Victorian, "Gothic Revival" style (that I'm not really familiar with on one hand and they created some really weird combinations on the other...)As for the workflow, to create a Gothic arch, I like to start like this;
- draw a rectangle with the ratio of a golden section (the inference will show when you get there) Certainly if needed, it can be higher or lower, too - I just like starting with this, gives a nice looking arch (you can scale it as well later)
- draw an arc from midpoint to midpoint until it says "tangent to edge" (see image)
- draw the other side and you're done.
Here's a simple one (you'll need the Hypercosm plugin to be able to see and navigate; go to X-Ray mode to see the vaulting)

Well, I put a quick one together for you to see how I can imagine that "other one" but without those pictures it's just a guess. Also, the main vault now is not pointed but rather parabolic which was widely used already in late Gothic (e.g "Perpendicular style") as well as in Victorian - only the ribs give it a "Gothic-like" look.
Note that in a "final" version you may need higher or lower poly solutions (to your needs) as well as many of this model can (and should) be made by components instead of the groups I used here.
Also, just to demonstrate a workflow, I put the ribs on a separate layer so that you can turn that layer off and navigate easier while modelling.Cheers

There is a very nice tool available called MrArchitect3D ( http://www.arcobaleno2001.it/ I have no afilliation) which can make a variety of interesting objects like this. They are very clean when you bring them into SU in my experience. Generally faster than I can make them. The eval shows you much of what is possible. Good luck.

I have had some success extruding two arches through each other and then using the intersect with model feature. Here is one simple example.
