CatchUP - Mannequin

Jenujacob - Great big thanks for the model!
I've long wanted such a mannequin for SU and think it will be really useful.
If you are ever in my part of the world let's get together and I'll make you some of my famous curried tuna soup. Not as spicy as a Indian curry but really tasty.
Regards, Ross

thanks all.. and eric,, that did cross my mind at some point while modeling this fella!
and ross.. thanx for that wonderous offer.. i just simply love tuna.. if ur in india ever especially my part of the country make sure u get urself of a wonderful houseboat on the backwaters of Allepeye and a sompoutous south Indian food with fried kingfish in bananna leaves.. yea we still love to eat on leaves.. LOLZ!
oh and ross... thanx for all those wonderful SU tips and techniques.. ive learned quite a lot from u! -

FRV! wow! thats just really cool.. how did u do the texturing?? i didnt have time to texture that lil fella... this is so good.. the main intention of this was to get it rendered!!! now i know this thing can work!! thanx again man!!

I textured it using the free textures of the Maxwellrender texture gallery. Actually I textured it first in SU but the quickly redid it in Maxwell Studio. That was a lot easier since then you can just drag the texture over de whole thing. I used texture as in plane instead of cubic, circulair or the other modes. Its just drags the whole grain across without wrapping it around anything. Works best I thought. I love Maxwell icw SU. Maxwell is easy and now with the new multicore hardware rendertimes are no longer an issue.
We are also using Modo now since I am beginning to loose faith in SU as a pro modeller in the more distant future. Now that Google has taken over I see there is no longer true support for the app. Bugs are no longer fixed and the feedback line back to the developer has broken. When @Last was still at the steering wheel I felt the app was moving on foreward fast, now I think SU is doing for Google what it does best and it will do so for a while. 3D CAD is growing rapidly and I somehow no longer see SU being part of it. Pitty, since I think SU was for a while the most likely candidate for the best 3D package of the future. Still, the Mannequin is great and in SU very usefull sometimes to attend a skech or design and it renders well too even in more finished models. I also do wooden models out of SU a lot and so the mannequin will be very helpful to add some more feeling of scale and size. Thanks. I will make a lesser detailled model as well if I can find the time. In case I need a big crowd and a 2D image would not be good enough.

Great Thanks!

if you like a more interesting rendering with more models combined in different poses I can render them for you and send the jpg. I have no time though to set them up like that in SU. I have two 8 cores macpro's here so overnight I can do rather high res images without much effort.
I got one macpro with a broken logic board. I only noticed it since the performance slowed down and after days of calling with Apple support and reformating the harddisk and then finally doing the hardware test from the CD I found out the Macpro had a logic board problem. Now I have to wait 3 weeks for a replacement. It was only 2 months old. Its a good thing its holiday month otherwise i could have run into serious problems with my clients. Because of this I would advise anyone here who runs expensive hardware to get more support than the standard stuff supplied with your hardware. A year later with something like this and being without my computer for a while and the added costs of repair would have given me plenty of sleepless nights...if not more serious consequences.

vasthi,
ur welcome!!frv,
glad to hear that u like my model.. please do use it in ur models.. nothin else would make me a happier man!!;) and thank u for the offer.. i shall definitely rem it!! i use kerky a lot and like i said i should try to render this with it some time.. (only if i could get some time... LOL)
i have only used SU and before that acad to model my buildings.. i must admit. this mannequin model could have been made in 3dsmax or blender like in one quarter of the time.. but i prefer it the SU way! lol.. i am sure monsterzero would agree with me there! its a whole lot more fun! besides i dont do much organic stuff anyway.. u could say SU i like a stress reliever.. (though it does have its moments of frustration!! )

The mannequin really looks pro modelled.
Is there some tutorial on organic modeling in SU somewhere? To be honest I would love to be able to model like that, but I don't really understand the use of Bezier, splines, soap skin and bubble, and advanced use of sandbox.
I would love to see some tutorial about that, covering all elements of organic SU modeling.
Apparantly, SU DOES have organic potential but the "how to's" are so tedious. Also, could a Sketchucation member put a list of all the useful 'organic modeling' rubys together?
To be honest, I am in the blue on which rubies to use (and how )I saw on PPB someone doing a very convincing car design (He entered a car design competition with it, go reckon).
So if anyone would be so kind 'tutting' organic modeling, I would be very very grateful.
And Frv,
I kind of second the things you say about the 'stand still' in development of Sketchup by Google.
Also I think Sketchup really has the potential to be a top modeler if development would start again.
My gratitude goes to the Ruby programmers that code some really usefull tools. However it would also be great if the Sketchup 'core' would be dealt with.
If only the 'memory leak' thing in Sketchup would be solved it would truely be a major improvement to start with.Cheers,

yes, its almost unreal that a package like SU which might be one the widest used 3D modelers in architecure has no feedback channel for bugs or a steady bug fix time line.
If I had a big firm I would not want to depend to much on SU. A hardware update or OS update could totally mess up your workflow if SU does not follow up on it swiftly. As of now I feel there are some guys at the back of a Google building doing SU on the side. All the spirit has gone out of the box that I felt with Censored to protect your privacy last at the wheel. The way Layout has been handled does not make me feel Google is on it..
well this is another thread I actually don't want to get into.
The Mannequin is great of corse and I loved to to see it turn into wood. Also would like to see some other renderers do this model. I still feel Maxwell is the best.poster-frv
