Finally snowing!

Yaaaaaaaaaaay finally after all these weeks of below freezing nights it is actually snowing. I would take a picture of all the nice pretty snowy evergreen trees out my back window, but all i got is a crappy webcam...
Any of you guys got snow yet? Or are any of you guys in a place where you havent seen snow in years? For that matter, am I the only person in the world who sits at my computer with the window open when its REALLY cold out? (Im really hot for some reason)

Yeah, we also had snow a couple of days ago but it's never really nice here. As snowing, it also starts melting so the whole winter is mostly just sloppy and muddy. We hardly ever get really nice winters.

Eeeewww, I hate it when that happens. Then again the fact that Im in a good sized city doesnt help either. By the time my birthday rolls around in January all the roads are covered in brown slush all the way to the sidewalks. Its rather unattractive.
Oh, hey anyone who reads this: Is anyone willing to provide a really novice user with some material I can attempt to crowbar into a model?
Everything I start winds up unfinished because I have no real idea in mind. The only thing I actually completed thus far was my desk. I figure if I had something to base it off of it would be real easy to produce a complete model. I never had problems like this in school, in my architecture class I completed all 7 plans and all elevations we had to do for the entire semester in the first month. And had the highest marks on it... But at the same time I had solid direction from the instructor. (Its just too bad I forgot most of what I learned in there)Then again isnt there a rule about being off topic... if so sorry

Since i made this thread we went from no snow sticking to the grass (only the cement and roads and such) to having an inch+ in the backyard. I hope it keeps up all night so I can laugh at everyone moving 15 MPH down the road. Personally when I am driving in the snow I dont do less than 5 under the speed limit, and usually I do exactly the speed limit. With no problems. Its like everyone forgets how to drive in the winter.

It's our first snowfall of the season here. We had a few flurries previously but no real accumulation. Today its snowed maybe 7 to 10 cm so far but the bigger problem is the high winds. There's steady winds of say 40 km/hr with gusts to 80km/hr so the snow is forming drifts.
I have to venture out now and do some grocery shopping. Thankfully my bride had studded snow tires installed on the car last week.

By studded, do you mean the metal studs, or simply the big rubber nubs? The metal ones are illegal here sadly. They make for some good fun on the lakes when ice fishing. Fun of course being that you can tear across the lake at 30+ MPH with no problems.
All the snow is drifting up here too. Normally I like to be outside when it is snowing, but right now the stiff wind pelting me in the face along with decent sized snow made me retreat back to my desk.

Where there is snow in Hungary they do the chain thing, too (but you must get it off when going on bare asphalt). When going to Austria (well, there IS snow in winter), you even must have one pair of chains (otherwise they might not let you in) and afaik we started to use this regulation, too. I guess some other EU countries do this as well (maybe not the Greeks or the Maltese though).
I just walk in winter. I live about one minute from my office (so I walk in summer, too)

Where do you live Masta? The studded snow tires here have small metal studs. They make lots of noise when driving on bare asphalt. They do work well to ensure traction when there is ice & snow. We are only allowed to use them in the winter season as they do contribute to tearing up the road. Most people here just use 'all-season' tires, some put on a pair of snow tires (heavier treads than regular tires), and some use tires with studs. When the weather is really bad some of the farmers coming to town will put chains on their tires. (Those chains are really noisy! but are the ultimate in traction).

PS - Driving back from the grocery store in the dark was fun. A few stretches of the road had 'white-out' conditions where blowing snow reduces visibility to just a few feet. The new studded snow tires did work well.

I live in the US, in Wisconsin. A land where year after year more and more things become illegal.

There must/may be more and more things illegal here as well - we just do not know about things like that (i.e. don't care)

Most people around here (especially northern Wisconsin) dont care either. You still see the stuff every winter regardless of the lawOh, and all our wonderful snow got stained brown from the tanic acid in the fallen leaves. But before that happened, it rained last night. So now the entire city is covered in 4 inches of semi frozen slush. I just spent the last two hours outside shoveling.

We got dumped on in Central Maine last night. It's beautiuful. I'm one of those really strange people that love the snow. Not that I'd want to be outside in it, but to sit here at my computer and be able to look out the window and watch it fall and everything turns white and "curvy" and smooth. I really love it.
I must admit tho, I am a total wimp when it comes to driving in it. I don't drive during storms. I just sit in my house and enjoy it, lol!
Last year (my first "real" winter) we didn't get snow until late January! A total rip off IMO!
Looks like a white Christmas this year. I'm looking forward to that! -
On this side of the world 2 years ago was the first snowfall in almost 40 years (and i was out), so i don't think i will see snow this year, but on the plus side last month was almost still summer.
