Soften edges
-
Hi all again..
whats the trick with soften edges. I accidentially soften all egdes in my model now i cant push/pull any egdes Thanks Andrew -
soften edges hides all the edges in ur model and theresby merging the different faces togetther.. u can turn on hidden lines option and see the hdden lines in dotted lines.. if u want to separate the faces u gotta draw lines along the dotted (hidden lines)..

Thanks so... soften edges command is a "one way" thing
Once done it cant be un-done ? -
here is a copy of the model..

Andrew,
It can always be "un-done" with the undo command but if you save and exit the model, of course it won't "remember" any moer. In your model, the "dividing" walls are softened only (the beds, couches, etc. being components, they acn be selected separately)
You can do the following:
-
Unsoften everything: by selecting all walls (triple clicking them) then selecting the "Soften/Smooth edges" from the context (right click) menu where unckeck both boxes and slide the slider to the leftmost (0 degrees).
-
By hand, any time, turn on hidden geometry and by using the Shift+Ctrl+Eraser tool, you can go along unsoftening every edge separately (this is better when you have some curved faces with more softened edges than what you want to unsoften)
Practical hotkeys in this case:
Ctrl+Eraser tool = soften (individual) lines (this will weld vertices into a curved face)
Shift+Eraser tool = hide (individual) edges (this will NOT weld vertices so you can still select individual faces later)
Ctrl+Shift+Eraser = unhide/unsoften (individual) hidden or softened lines. -

Thanks Giaeue
There is alot to this SU program
Petty dodgey model hey but i think its easier that autocad/inventor -
Andrew,
Most of us here keep learning new things and little tips&tricks every day.
I still often go through sections of the SU Guide for it documents SU so well that you always find things in it that you don't remember (or do but forget to use):
