      Here is a verbatim reproduction of a post I placed in the GG Gallery just about one year ago, when I was but a mere newby:

      @unknownuser said:

      This is a replica of the letterform sculpture appearing on the cover of
      the mind altering book, "Goedel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden
      Braid," by Douglas Hofstadter. The sculpture symbolizes the thesis of
      the book and is a visual paraphrase of the title.

      This was a lot more difficult to model than I anticipated. I started
      over three times, and I was tempted to quit at least twice. What's
      really amazing is that Hofstadter originally cut these incredible
      shapes out of two blocks of redwood using a bandsaw.

      Edit: Thanks, Gaieus. I've attached the model.

        Gully, I've seen that model of yours before (if I'm not mistaken) but now the link you provided seems to be broken. Could you fix it?

              Here is an image. Maybe this needs to be moved to the MCS forum.

                Eric,

                I am slightly embarrassed that you felt the need to post an image on my behalf. Thank you. I could have done so myself, but I thought that the links to the images I provided would be adequate. This is how we post images on the GG board. Somewhat primitive, I guess.

                I also considered posting this to the MCS section, but I couldn't quite picture anyone wanting to include this as a component in their model, except possibly as a sculpture erected in front of the court building of a very strange town, or possibly on the campus of Indiana University, where Douglas Hofstadter teaches.

                  My first thought was to scale it down and place it on an office desk. Or it could be an "Egg". It shows up in almost everything, just very hidden.

                  I'll go ahead and move it. A shadow will be here for a few days.

                    Yes, Easter Egg! I knew I would get it wrong.
