A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members

Hi OneWay and welcome.
As Mateo says, feel free to ask - or just read around until you know what to ask! -
Hi,
My name is Fred, and I am from the Netherlands.
I discovered SU about a month ago and I am loving it and to be honoust, i have joined this forum because i have a question and need your help.In my holidays I am working in a shelter in Bosnia, and here we have a cabin (is that the correct English word?) with a lot of wooden beams which is supposed to be a house. (excuse me for incorrect English every now and then).
I am trying to learn SU myself and with the help of a Dutch forum but i have a question which they also cannot answer and who knows, maybe you can?
I have created a model of all the wooden beams we have in the shelter and this should become a house. Unfortunately we do not have the constructionplans... (and actually we are not even sure if we have all the beams)
In a thread on the Dutch forum (which unfortunately is Dutch) i have explained what we have and i have inserted the model.
Is there anybody around here who can play with this model and make a correct house? (thé correct house if possible or a big house that also might be possible? (without sawing if possible)The link to the thread (also with some pictures that might help):

a lot of volunteers working in Bosnia (and the owners) would be very happy if this pile of wood could become some kind of house...Regards,

Hi Fred and welcome!
There are a whole bunch of Dutch people here as well so I hope they will be able to help after they read those posts.
Until then, here are a couple of topics about such log cabins (as they are called I think):

Hi everyone,
Im Stew a new SU member, Im a town planner in the UK, who also designs buildings and site layouts - a frustrated Architect really and its a useful overlap. I use Caddie for drawing and have watched other SU users over the years and finally decided to play with it now. Its actually really addictive! -Im going to have to ask for some advice about putting too much information into my drawings!
Anyway, thank you so far to Gaieus and Chris for your help on my newbie landscape/topo issues - really appreciated,
"I'll be back" (said in an Arnie kinda way)

Hi Stew and welcome (again).
Tell me why you are (still) using SU 5 instead of 7 or at least 6?
-
Hi Gaieus, thanks for your reply!
Wow, lot of posts already about cabins, i will sure read them!
-
Hi Gaieus,
I had SU4 when I worked in a Planning Consultancy and my brother in law bought me SU5 as a birthday present when i left (I mentioned that I liked it but hadn't got to play with it at all). I might buy SU7 - is it much better - hard to think that it could be

Well, at least upgrade from SU 5 to 6 was free - you could've tried it. Now to 7 it is 95$.
There've been serious improvements in both steps. Whether it is MUCH better or not; you should try. Good news is that you can always try the free version and decide if you need the "extras" later.

Hi my name is Mauricio Vélez, I´m new in this community and using sketch for a few months, now I´m working with idx renditioner for rendering, and I´ll like to know if somenone has some information about this program. I have some simple examples that a have made but I don´t know if I can post them here. Well see you people. Bye.
-
Hi Mauricio and welcome to the forums.
Sure you can post examples and hope there are people who can help you (I also have IDX Renditioner although I have to tell you that I have not had much time to to fully get around it yet).
-
Hi Mauricio,
I'm William and I'm with IDX. I'm on these forums from time to time, mostly learning about SketchUp. If you have specific Renditioner questions I should be able to help you. For general rendering and SketchUp questions the Gallery area here is fantastic for quick feedback! If they are narrow questions about how to do x or y, you will probably get faster help on the IDX forums at http://forums.idx-design.com.

Hi everyone,

Hello all. My name is Jeremy and am about to install SketchUp. I am a little unsure about SketchUp being the software I need. My actual need is for a 3d posable model of a spider monkey. The visual surfaces of the model are less important than the ability to pose the model and use still photos of the various poses for some silouette artwork. Is SketchUp capable of manipulating a model in this way? I really hope it is as the free aspect of the program makes it very attractive! Let me know your thoughts and if SketchUp will be able to get me where I am going?
Jeremy
