In his Highboy thread David mentioned a bed model I did. Here it is.

It's a queen-sized bed designed by Martin McClendon. He based his bed off of a pair of twin-sized beds designed by the Greene brothers for the Gamble House in Pasadena, California. I did this model for the woodworking plans that are available from The Taunton Press.

A woodworker I conversed with the other day is planning to build a king-sized version of the bed. We discussed various design options to account for the additional width. Widening the central panels was his choice. About two minutes in SketchUp and I was able to show him the design change.

Not so sure about the wide panel myself but that's the route he wants to go.

Great πŸ˜„ - I always grin a little about the for us in D still not so common terms like "queen-sized" or even heard "king-sized" here and there. We only have beds here, and if they are as big as yours, we simply call them unspectacular double-beds πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜„

We've got singles, twins, doubles, queens, kings and California kings. I probably missed one or two in there. The California kings are so big you almost need to cut the sheets in half and wash them in pieces because they won't fit in the washer whole. πŸ˜„

          And thank you.

The wide panel didn't appeal to me and while looking at some other pieces by the Greene bros. I saw how they divided up large panels into thirds so I gave the bed a quick adjustment to see. I like this better.

Really nice. I love the Greene and Greene work and the whole arts and craft / craftsman movement. I got a lot of the books. I guess it's not so cool to admit it these days. Hope you don't mind as a note of context, my mother grew up in Pasadena and it happened she played at the Gamble house with the children there.

It is more pleasing to my eyes the second version, and it breaks texture a bit so my eyes are not drawn to texture first and I can enjoy your model as a whole better. Great work as usual. πŸ‘

Not cool to admit that you have books? Well, I guess I'm getting old.

That's a cool history with your mother.

I mean everything is supposed to be modern or post-modern or something now, right? Oh, "Transitional"
