Removing stickiness from box joints
-
I want to create a series of drawers for a chest. I know I can create individual drawer parts and define them as components. I thought I'd take a different approach though with the idea of saving a little time, but I'm not sure it's possible.
I'd like to use rectangle, offset and push/pull to create a simple box; with no bottom for now. (I will recreate it later after placing grooves in the four sides to accept it.) Then I'd like to separate the four sides from each other and make them pairs of components (side/side, front/back). That way I could l quickly create drawers with different dimensions, separate all sides, and layout the joints I'll be using at the corners.
Maybe I can use a cutting plane somehow to cut the sides from each other where they meet at the corners?

You should try that to see for yourself. I think you'll find it's more work than making the individual components for the drawer box sides and then editing them to add the box joints. If you do the sort of thing you're thinking, you'll have to handle the joints at all four corners to clean up the joints due to the missing edges and faces.

Thanks for the reply Dave. Yeah, I played around a bit but it's more trouble than it's worth.
