So who's going? anybody here planning on this? I've been nerding out on this for 2 years now! can hardly wait!
First time a TOTAL SOLAR eclipse has traversed the entire Cont'l US Since 1918. Supposed to be the most photographed Astral event in history.

I am planning on being near Idaho Falls ID, (Rexburg) which is a front row seat in the Umbra. IF you can make it. . .it's a once in a lifetime event! Get your ISO safety glasses! sun glasses won't cut it. ya don't wanna go blind or anything like that. ๐Ÿ’š

I'm 90 minutes from "path of totality" in SC. w/friends in same path, have plans to visit, but as Pilou pointed out.....hopefully clouds will not spoil.
Have purchased a number of proper (ISO) glasses to pass around for anyone unprepared.......but given the media exposure i would be surprised if anyone half paying attention would not be aware by 08/21/2017.

Here's to clear skies to all in the path!!!

Idaho . .(or as I like to call it. . Potataho! With love of course, cuz I was born there)

According to their 20 year cloud survey (yes! they do exist! who knew?) we are in all probability slated to have beautiful clear skies . . .unless we don't ๐Ÿ’š

However everybody along the path is taking the same chance. Actually Oregon could have it hte worst because it's in the morning there near the coast. Morning fog and all of that. But. . i think We're in for a great show!

I guess SC is gearing up for sightings of Bigfoot and LizardMan during the eclipse. Be on the look out.

I'm about an hours drive from where they had totality. A co-worker and I enjoyed what we had from our parking lot. At it's peak, from our point the Sun was covered up about 99%. To a casual observer, the Sun appeared normal - amazing how much light it was still putting out even though most of it was blocked. To us the most fascinating aspect was even though the sun was shining, and the shadows hadn't moved, it got very dark here. All the cicadas started singing. And the trees cast weird shadows on the pavement. It was a weird, wonderful 30 minute respite from work.

I was taking Pix of the progression up thru 99% and was doing okay. When Totality hit, it just burst upon us. I tried to shoot a pic with my DSLR and my Tripod, but thelight had changed, it was too dark. I was fumbling and getting frustrated, etc etc. My daughter said. . "Dad. . .just enjoy it. you have 2 minutes"

She was right of course. It was stunning. Tears were shed. Yeah.. . we're already planning for 2024 in Texas.

That's exactly what the shadows were doing, David. I can't say it really emotional for me or my co-worker, but we didn't have totality. It was very fascinating, nonetheless.
