Need new computer. Suggestions?

So what does SketchUp use to operate? RAM? CPU? VRAM? HDD temp memory swaps?
I need a new computer. My models are now starting to get very complex and SketchUp is seriously starting to lag.
But I can't afford a workstation rig. What is good compromise? Is there is anything I can do to improve my current rig? More RAM?
I running Win 7, 64, i5 Intel CPU, with and average video system on a laptop. I'm lucky I've gotten this far.
