serenissimo table by lella vignelli.jpgLella Vignelli, one of the most influential designers of the late 20th century, died recently. She was 82. With her husband Massimo, she left her mark on everything from subway maps to shopping bags to coffee cups to furniture and jewelry. The model here is her Serenissimo table, which comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, all with massive steel legs and a glass top resting on a steel frame. The model is dining-table size. Yes, the piece isn't made of wood, but Vignelli's work surely influenced plenty of woodworkers.

              heller mug by vignelli.jpg
Here's another of her iconic designs: A coffee mug by Heller. Comes in a zillion colors, plus clear plastic or porcelain. Still in production. How many of us have owned one or drunk from one over the years?
