      ..................................................................................................

As I understand our profile setup, it's up to the user to nominate their perceived level of Sketchuppiness, n'es pas?

I first put myself down as 'Advanced' cos I am good!... At least in my world. 😎

But on reflection I changed it to Intermediate, cos I'm a bit humble. And I don't know anywhere as much as Dave. (Who should be in his own category anyway).

But, as a craftsman who believes in the old guild system of 'apprentice, journeyman, master', is there a possibility of applying a standard to members sketchuppiness though a vote or moderator or something.

And what would be the criteria?

Obviously, clean models, but after that?

      Just putting it out there...

There's a ranking system based on contribution that we don't use.

It's be easier to migrate the forum to a newer system. Which we are exploring.

Problem is keeping all we currently have or archiving it to remain searchable.

But I agree a better 'skill level' is needed. But 95% that register don't contribute they simply want extensions.

I don't feel it's really needed to have a skill level.

I have reduced mine as time goes by... I thought I was great at sketchup then I see what others do with it and I feel I'm not, but then I see people having a hard time at things I do in a breeze so I think I'm great again...

            I have no delusions. I am a beginner/novice/newbie under any standards β˜€

I do love the forum though. There are so many sages here who teach me a lot. πŸ‘

One of the great weaknesses of sketch up is. That one can easily fool himself into thinking he has mastered it.

I've started a similar discussion some years ago here, but don't remember the result (if there was one?)...:

I missed that thread Cotty, interesting.
                    This would get my vote...

I think I would add Advanced intermediate. I too downgraded myself after a while.

Every time I think I might be getting pretty good at SU I see a post that brings me back to reality.

I vote for baz' list so Advanced is not the top level.

I find this thread interesting and a little amusing. Unlike ntxdave I can get a little delusional at times. When ever I think maybe I've learned enough to move out of the "newb" ranks I end up "balls up" with a model and it brings me down to reality !
I think folks like DaveR and Rich need their own category, something like "Uber Sketchup Kings" Final note , as long as guys like Box, Cotty, and Solo are listed as intermediate, I think I'll just stay down in the basement with the rest of the "newbs". Heck their good company. 😎

In golf, Box, Cotty, and Solo listing themselves as Intermediate would be called "sandbagging" 😎

I actually find that rather offensive, both Cotty and I and Solo have been involved in and even started threads about this very subject.
For exactly the reason you now call sandbagging.

How do you choose what you should be from the three options,
Ok I'm Not a beginner, but I'm also not advanced as I barely use layout, can't write a plugin and have limited experience with only one render engine.
This leaves me with only one option, Intermediate.

Don't see why anybody would "sandbag" their skill ranking. Not like any of us are getting prizes for being at one level or another. Agree it might not hurt to add a few more levels though.

Chill...Box, it was a compliment, albeit tongue in cheek, but one I agree with. You guys have proved many times how fluent you are, (in your own ways), with Su.

So... looking at the posts here and Cotty's thread, it seems that some of us wouldn't mind extended ranking options.
As said before I like this...

                                        Beginner
                                        Novice
                                        Intermediate
                                        Advanced
                                        Expert

We don't need, or are asking for, a pissing match about who is the 'best'.
And as Box says, who could be the best at all the aspects of the Su/Layout/Plugins/Communication interface?
A guru perhaps? But let us not go there just now:)

baz, Like your list. Would possibly ad one more rank though. How about after "expert" you have "master" for those few who have reach the top of SU's Mt. Olympus.

Bob James, Apologies , the "tongue in cheek" nature of your earlier post sort of flew over my head also. 😳
